Tracker is great for off grid because the array is always facing the sun where a fixed ground mount only makes the max power at noon. You get 40% more power from a tracker system.

Love the project and very interested to see the final working system & stats. Looks like you went with 48 200w panels. I would have gone with higher wattage panels, but your cost to benefit ratio may be worth it. I'm of the opinion to overbuild right now as once I went with solar and an EV, my usage jumped dramatically, even removing the EV portion. That ground mount tracking system is the bomb - awesome job there.. I think the video could have done without 10min of towing the trailer back with the digger.

There are 24 panels that are 400 watts each. They are Trina 72 cell. I did a test with my friend. I installed the same panels and inverter on a fixed ground mount for my friend and I installed a tracker at my house. I produce at least 40 percent more on sunny days. Cloudy days it’s about the same because the sun is diffused on cloudy days.

Would it be better to face the heatsinks on the optimizers down so they have better airflow? Otherwise, very cool to see the install and components so well explained.

That’s the way they mount to the rail better. Heat rises so having them up the heat will flow away from the optimizer. If it was the other way the heat would stay in the optimizers longer. There is convection of heat also when the array is tilted.

Yes there are trees to the east and west that are coming down. The south has no trees.

There are trees to the south that can’t be cut down. The trees near the array have been cut down already.

It is my own business. This job has batteries for backup if the power goes out which cost more then just a grid tied solar tracker. The net cost after rebates and tax credits is about $20,000
