To be fair, I think Velux use Alanod which is better than the solatube material. The 3M stuff that comes from solatube starts to lose performance pretty quickly after it's out of the box

I would only use that in a unheated space. You've cut a big hole in the insulation. The savings in the cost of lighting, is way less than the rise in HVAC cost. Just add some LED lights.
