Very much like our 1966 Ford LTD. Though the LTD was optioned more. Great thing about this design is the flow through ventilation. Those slots behind the rear window really keep the cabin air comfortable is any weather. The sedan style is rarely matched. Certainly a pleasure to road trip when all systems are working correctly. The AC probably needs a recharge. Tough to find a shop with the original Freon.

Charles, that Mercury is absolutely gorgeous! It really looks so new after all these years...quite remarkable! In a lot of ways, it reminds me a lot of the brand new white 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 that we had when I was a kid. It was also a four-door hardtop just like this, with the exact same roof including that classy rear window. Many of the interior trim features were also quite similar, although ours was in red. That was such a long time ago, but I vividly remember vacation road trips in that car. Thank you so much for this little trip back in time. What a super fun car this Mercury would be to own!

For the 1965 model year, Ford really ramped up its quality, and spent a lot of time and money developing the ride of these cars, advertising that they rode better and quieter than a rolls Royce. This Merc looks super classy and is perfect for the middle class man who wants a comfortable and quiet ride, along with quality of build and material.

That definitely is a work of art. What they did with a rectangular base design was magnificent. I'd say, it's a skinnier Continental without the Continental engine. By then, Mercury unfortunately shared engines only with Ford models. Compliments to Mercury Division for designing only clean unfrivilous lines. There are absolutely no design flaws to be found. The round guages are also eye candy. I only regret having overlooked these, back then when they were affordable as used cars and more abundant. I devoted too much to my 1956 Chevrolet 4-door sedan, only because of the dates it would attract (even as a humdrum 4-door sedan?!)

What an awesome, well preserved car. I always preferred the Park Lanes, but after seeing a Monterey in this condition, it really changes my mind. Even the entry level big Merc was super classy. One thing I do disagree with is the 390 2V having 325 hp. It was either 250 or 266 hp, depending on whether it was regular or premium fuel. But other than that, awesome video.

It makes me feel good to know how many guys across the country I don't feel so much alone now that I read these posts and the comments they generate. We clearly all have the same memories about being a kid who grew up in the 60s. At that time my family all drove Chryslers. My grandfather on my mom's side worked at Chrysler's Highland Park headquarters, just west of downtown Detroit. In 1958, our entire family moved to the San Fernando Valley, California. We drove to California in a new 58 Dodge Custom Sierra wagon. It was red and white. By the early 70s, we all had switched to Fords. It actually started when my oldest brother bought a 66 Mustang, it was black with black vinyl interior. A 289 4 barrel Motorcraft carburetor, and a 4 on the floor manual transmission, and duel exhaust. That car was too cool. 2 of my uncle's had beautiful Colony Park wagons. One was white with red interior, and a 390 under the hood, we also had more Mustangs, a few F series trucks. By 1976, my parents bought a 76 Lincoln Town Car, with a mighty 460 under the hood. I had 75 Colony Park, it white with tan interior and of course the woodgrain panels on the sides and tailgate. We all loved that wagon. In fact, its nickname was "The Wagon," and it was loved by all. By the early 80s, the family had all switched to Fords. In the 90s, we had 6 Explorers and we loved them. I think my dad was a total Ford man. As he got older, he had 2 owned 2 Sable wagons, and he loved them both. Today, one brother drives a 08 F-150, one has a 98 Explorer, in Eddie Bauer trim, and I have a 08 Explorer XLT. Fords are great vehicles. They all are very comfortable and handle great.

How do you validate mileage in the us ?,we have Mot's in the uk
@jeffsmith846
@jeffsmith846 Жыл бұрын
There is no true absolute. Some states required an annual inspection and IF the owner kept the paperwork then it would verify the mileage. Also some owners kept repair invoices which would verify the miles. I can tell you that I have owned more than fifty old cars in the last fifty years. 95% of them you have no idea if the mileage is correct. A careful driver with highways miles in a dry state like California could easily have 120000 on a car that still looks new. A car from the rust belt driven primarily in town or city are hard miles and 50000 miles looks like the car has 250000. Add all this to the fact that nearly all car new dealers turned back miles on nice trade in cars, say from 80,000 down to 35,000. Just my two cents worth.

Well, actually . . . The interior of this Ford Mercury (more Ford than Mercury since 1961) is very cheap looking--all plastic and thin vinyl upholstery. It's a step down from '64, which was the best Mercury since 1960. Things got better '68 ff model years. But I do like the clean exterior design.
