Though introduced in 1962, the fratzog emblems on top of the fenders were never on this model. The ones on this car came off a 64 Dodge 880. I own both a 62 hardtop like this one (2dr), and a 64 880. Also, the fender fratzogs are different L and R. Each is angled slightly at the base to make them stand vertically. Owner should have someone swap them L to R. Easy mistake to fix.

I remember seeing one of these in a junkyard about 30 years ago. Even the valve covers were unscripted with the name "Turnpike Cruiser". Truly one of a kind with a look only a mother could love! This was NOT a great looking car by any stretch compared to the cars of the day.

I believe this car was built for Eleanor Ford. I believe she owned it for less than a year.

Charles Phoenix, yours are the best videos on vintage American cars, and Mid-Century Modern Design. I stared collecting classic American cars when I was 16. I have owned some of the models you so artfully display. I cannot get enough of these well narrated videos! Thank you so much!

Old Times! My Dad's company car was very much like this--'64 Ford County Sedan, I think it was called. Equipped exactly like the car you have here, including the AM-FM radio. Maybe Ford was pushing that radio for '64. None of my Dad's company cars had that, through 1974.

Stunningly beautiful and well preserved, the car looks brand new. She must have been living in a climate-controlled building most of her life, or she came from the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Michigan.

I just stumbled on this video and this car looked familiar. I painted this car for Jim, the original owner from Yucca, about 10 years ago. In fact there is a big framed picture of it hanging in the shop office. My shop is in 29 Palms. I'm happy to see it in such great condition! He had another car, a beautiful '72 Chevelle, which I still own today.

I thought the sixty Ford station wagon in your other video was beautiful, and it is, but this Merc takes station wagon glory to the next level. Cars like this was why back in the day the family would all just jump in and go for a ride. I know!

Dear Charles Phoenix: You are thankfully providing an important service to our country, and culture! These beautiful automobiles are in deed national treasures! Even as a child, growing up in the 1960s, I was aware of how special these great cars were, with their big engines, and smooth, quiet rides! Truly Space-Age moving works of art. A cherished memory of my childhood, was when my auntie Rea arrived from the Netherlands, in 1959. She graduated from university, at UCSB, in 1962. She said: "I always wanted to own a big American car!" In deed, with her first paycheck as a clinical psychologist, she put a down payment on a fabulous used 1956 Lincoln Capri. It was red and white, inside and out, and she took me on many a pleasure drive, all over California. We travelled the Coast Highway; we visited Solvang California, and the San Diego Zoo! Charles Phoenix: These cars are vital witnesses to a rich history, and some of them, should be protected by law, in my opinion! Just as we have laws protecting our National Parks, National Historical Monuments, and Buildings, so too, we should have laws which protect those unspoiled original cultural icons of our history culture! No more "Hot Rods", and no more "Low Riders" destroying these precious artifacts! Just my opinion! I am addicted to your wonderful videos. Please never stop! I love your Smart Enthusiastic Delivery and Narration! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
