Unfretted clavichord after Silbermann by Richard Schaumloffel of Adelaide, Australia. 61 notes, FF-f''', at A=415. Responsive touch with a great expressive range and quiet, clean action. Colorful sound perfect for Baroque to Classical repertoire. Sits on an apron stand with removable legs for easy transport. A lovely instrument from a talented builder whose work is rarely seen in North America.

I love the clavichord to bits. It has such a soft, intermit sound. It’s so close to the heart. It makes you feel at home rather than in a massive hall.

I know the builder the instrument was built in 1983 as a prelude to him building fortepianos. It is a copy of the instrument in the germanishes museum Nuremberg by Johann Heinich Silbermann. It is brass strung with covered bass strings unfretted. The case is Tasmanian blackwood the keys English lime the soundboard is two piece guitar Swiss pine. The rose is parchment the maker told me after its first tune it never went out of tune.
