I had an SLO100 when I was playing in a metal band with White in the name in 2007 thru 2009. Best sounding drive ever. Had to sell it to pay bills. Also found the loop useless with any of my effects due to the level. Been using various 5150s since the loop is pedal friendly. I’m ready to buy this new SLO but wondering if it has the same quality of output transformer as my circa 2007 black aligator looking version. Everything on that, switches, pots, jacks, felt super heavy duty and tight. Hoping build quality is the same. Standard 2 button mechanical footswitch TRS?
@GoogleEqualsEvil4 жыл бұрын
Hey James, glad to see you're still alive and kicking. We need more guitar Wizzards making music nowadays. In regard to the new amps, you should send Mike an email with your questions. I know for sure that the DeYoung transformers that came in the originals are no longer available at any price, so they definitely won't be in these new amps. But the other Mil-Spec parts might be. Anyway, the Soldano website is still active with a contact drop down: www.soldano.com/ And this is the company that is actually making the new ones: www.boutiqueampsdistribution.com/ I think Mike has worked with and specified Magnetic Components www.magneticcomponents.net/ transformers now, which I have used in several builds myself and they sound stellar and have been 100% reliable (and they're Mil-Spec certified). FYI - Magnetic Components were the OEM supplier of transformers for pretty much all of the American guitar amp companies starting in the 1950's (including Fender of course).
@JamesJLaRue4 жыл бұрын
@@GoogleEqualsEvil this is great info! I know it's gonna be different, the fx loop, DC heater, but as long as it's still good and SLO-sounding that's all fine. I got nervous initially seeing another company was building since we've seen other name brands purchased for name legacy only and then an inferior, though affordable, product shows up. But looks like these are still gonna be top end. Not a huge factory. Sounds good, seems good to me. I'm not sure what xformer was in mine, but I just remember sales guy saying it was important to the sound, and I remember a hammertone finish on it I think.
@GoogleEqualsEvil4 жыл бұрын
@@JamesJLaRue Yep, the FX loop should be a big improvement (only fault with the originals in my opinion). I suspect that it's the same design as the Friedman since BAD manufactures all the Friedman amps as well. Absolutely agree with you about made in China, etc crap that looks the same, but inside it's definitely not. Mike made sure the original SLO's used high end, Mil-Spec, US made components, and it looks like he is making sure BAD continues that legacy. That's a good sign! Yeah, you had an original SLO100 with the DeYoung transformers. Sad you had to sell it, but I've been there myself. The 5150 isn't a bad substitute to be honest. Not as good quality of course, but not bad either.

You are correct sir! I run an HSS strat or a sleazy import Hamer into my astroverb. The most important part is the Celestion speakers (not Soldano Eminence). The Astroverb is based upon the SLO's clean channel with the crunch switch on (the SLO is too much gain for me).
