I couldn't get this to work until I reversed the wires. Red bottom black top. Why's that? I'm not a beginner at soldering but I am new on DC cables. I use truetone CS12

I was going to comment that he should have mentioned the boss pedal has center positive (probably) so with a normal pedal, you might reverse that but to be sure, use a DVM to make sure you know which is the tip wire vs the shield wire.

Which cable gauge do you recommend to do my own cables from scratch?

I just use the standard cables that come with the power supply.

After all that you still have the 9v cable too close and running over signal cables... The idea is to isolate them from each other. And it is STRAIN RELIEF not STRENGTH RELIEF.

According to “rig-doctor” (Vertex guy), power VS audio cable isolation is less critical when dealing with very low currents in the milliamp range, as opposed to high voltage AC and audio, such as we deal with on stage and studio.
