Soldering iron tip scam, Hakko fakes are rampant everywhere, beware.

Ever tried to solder and you burn out your Hakko or clone soldering iron, these clone tips are made from dubious materials, I cannot believe they are not Copper.

I remember using knockoff tips a long time ago... they were just erroding away, awful stuff. Was afraid the expensive tips on my pinecil wouldn't last either and would just disappear after a few months, but here it is 2 years later and all tips still look pristine.

I have a couple of the soldering Irons, and even the knock off tips seem to been knocked off. The knickoff tips usually blast a while, the replacement tips i got. The tip of the tip eroded away. With it looking like it entered. The atmosphere at 10x escape velocity about 20%, of the 3-4 mm remaining. Almost impossible to use, I only use it to solder wires together, replace it for anything else,. Can't believe its sc crappy! Where does the metal go?

The metal is dissolved by flux and molten solder and is transferred to the solder connection, I found all the tips are picked up by a magnet, so they are iron.

It;s just not Hakko. I bought additional tips for my TS-100, but they were 3rd party. The temperture on them tends to jump around alot compared to the ones that came with it.

Yeah i had the same problem with tips for my hakko fx-951, all fake crap, unless i order from RS.

I made my owm screw in tip from a chunck of nickle .hard stuff to machine. Thought it would be good but didnt transfer the heat very well.

Looks like stainless. Try a magnet test.

Stainless is almost the same weight as copper. Unless they skimp om that as well. Probably 303 if it is.

Why didn't you shop direct from Hakko? Was it too expensive? If the Hakko store is "too expensive" then you can't really complain that you bought the cheaper alternative from China.

@@DetectorMods If you can get a molecularly bonded solder joint without cooking the part or the board then it's fine for you. I would tell most people to stack the deck in their favor when soldering, though.
