I grew up hearing a very similar set of lyrics but a completely different melody. Wonderful to hear this version!

You are so cute! I absolutely adored listening to this, I was just going through old choir sheet music and remembered doing this one for a contest, So nostalgic to hear it again.

I remember this from a recording of children's songs! I must try it some time. Well done.

Great version, and I imagine pretty close to the original renditions heard in America in the 17th century. Amazing :-)

Now that's a blast from the past! I was introduced to this song as a kid by the Alan Lomax recording...used to find it a bit misogynist (that version ended with "ugly little girl, when I've got a pretty wife at home")...but now, in the greater wisdom of advanced age, I realize it's a lesson about trying too hard!

It's off to her grandfather chest, this guy is standing at her door, it's not likely he is going to wait for her to go shopping for the next four days to buy clothes. Also ring a ring a roses is A-tishoo! A-tishoo! not ashes, ashes we all fall down, it's chronological, how you fall down after you have become ashes. Beautifully sung and played though.

Thank you very much... Say hello to that 5th grade.

I thought it was about a soldier away from home (at war) having an affair only to abandon her when the war was over. Not about trying too hard but about being taken advantage of.
