I don't think they are allowed to . But I was used to coming to London since 1951 and came most yesrs ever since. and never before have I seen such "appalling behaviour from tourists". they are out of control it seems to me that even the authorities have "their hands tied" if they are attemping to control these disrespectful to our soldiers and our country. this includes the out of control UK youths and girls who so many also out of control of their adults who are supposed to be in charge of them. It's ever since the advent of thos abominable instrusive phones every man and his dog seem to have these days, Never happened when we only had "ordinary camera's in which you had tyo load a film. and you just couldn't just "click click click" with. and never have to pay and wayit to get the films developed. I've got a precious photograph at Horseguards taken in 1973 with my "late son" which I treasure and none of those huge crowds acting like these do.

@crabber9368 Sure, but the guard only speaks, using English, AFTER the tourist has grabbed the reins of a horse that doesn't belong to him. When a person grabs the reins of a horse with a bit in its mouth, he then has control of the horse, with a soldier sitting on it. Language barrier or not, the tourist has no right to grab the reins, thereby interfering with the soldier on duty! That's not acceptable in ANY language or culture! If these people are going to come as tourists, then they should learn a little bit about the customs of the country they're visiting. If we visited their country, and broke their rules, we would probably have far more to contend with than just being shouted at!

The soldiers are in Camo, I’m not sure that they’d appreciate their uniform described as mufti tbh!! 🙃🙃 Also there are no Sergeants in the Household Cavalry, the equivalent would be Corporal of Horse, CoH . Apart from that, sounds like fun, let’s do it! 😂

That one trooper, in MTP, with all the nervous mannerisms, looks about 18, maybe 19. Whoever sent him out there was trying to toughen him up, but it's not going to happen quickly. I remember being like that, too, over four decades ago.

You know what you were taught as a child, I think it could definitely do with some reinforcement here, “KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF, LOOK WITH YOUR EYES ONLY!” The only exceptions would be BLINDNESS/SEVERE VISION LOSS or CLOSELY SUPERVISED CHILDREN WITH SENSORY DISABILITIES, ie., the parent/caregiver would have to hold the child’s hand while gently stroking the horse a couple of times.

@@GazzaBoo any form of barrier around the horses would be impractical and dangerous. The gates are shut when the guard is being changed but it can’t be shut all the time as there is a RoW through the tunnel and across the courtyard.

I belive they where instructed not to "shout at the tourists" The soldiers "wearing khaki unform where rarely seen" they are much more visible now and "hands on" The Police didn't interfere as much as they do now either. which is an inprovement that both them are more involved.

Made my day. Something needs to be done about this mauling of the horses by anyone off the street as a good safe idea. What are the powers that be thinking taking power of the guards away from them. They have no control over disrespect. They might as well put a card board cut out of a horse guard with a plastic horse as defending the gate to the palace..no respect is shown to those guards who trained for what this kind of disrespect. 😢 something also needs to be done with people having no regard for moving safely out of the way..it’s such an inconvenience to them..the important tourist.

Quite probably many of them haven't, at least in real life or close up. You don't get a lot of horses in modern cities or even agricultural communities. I live in an English country town and I can't remember the last time I saw a horse at close quarters.

Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security!! Two of them have perfected a very neat ‘Tourist Trap’ they stand there eyes half closed, head hanging down as far as possible and tongue lolling. Along comes the tourist, he/she sees, to all intents and purposes, a dozy horse. Starts their photo op moving around for different poses and a limb is left in the eye-line of said horse. Whompf, got him/her……..!!

This really gets me mad!! Some people have no respect at all,. They often just walk behind the soldiers asking them to stand behind the white lines straight after they have walked away. This needs restructuring to a more safer environment for guardsmen and their beautiful horses. The signs need to go back, but a bigger bolder sign. Rather than telling people that they may get bitten or kicked, it should say what fines they will be given if they dont follow the rules. I'm sure they will quickly learn to stay behind the lines.This will protect the poor horses from being constantly pawed on and the guardsmen are still able to do their duty of protecting the monarchy. Sorry about my ranting but come on, can you imagine other countries allowing this to happen

That sounds like a question for google or the regiment I think! I live not far from one of the retirement places used by the Cavalry, they’re well looked after there. The remounts usually are around 4 yrs old when they’re purchased, usually unbroken.
