This Soldier's Chorus is outstanding. I love watching it all the time. Thank you for this. I admire your opportunity to be in opera. I'm a U S Marine veteran. I have been in battle and have memorable experinces from traveling the globe during my career. I have my mom to thank for my love of music and opera. I played cello and bass in high school. Sometimes I wish I had turned my path toward a life of music and arts. But I graduated, just turned 18, and was ready for high adventure. I chose the Marine Corps. I knew there is a Marine Band. I was a good musician but not great. I couldnt blind read a piece of music and play on the spot. Silly me looking for adventure got to be an armored vehicle crewman. In my life of guns and dirt, I've always kept classical music and opera close to my heart. There are performances that make me tear up, that the singer becomes Isolde, or Brunnhilde, or the Commendatore. Thank you to all the singers and musicians that keep music alive from centuries ago. Thank you from my heart.

The "Soldiers' Chorus" is a powerful and memorable piece from Charles Gounod's opera "Faust." It's a rousing ensemble number that typically occurs in Act IV of the opera. The soldiers sing of their bravery and loyalty to their country, expressing their readiness to defend it at any cost. It's often performed with great energy and passion, making it a highlight of the opera.

It's a pleasure to listen to again and again, better not knowing the meaning of the words. At times, it's a war song that glorifyies war, I don't know if it would be acceptable nowadays. If you're fool enough to remain in the country where you'll be sent to war, it's because you are poor as Job with no education.

I was in. Chorale Society when I was in 11th grade, there were slightly more than a handful of teenagers, obviously an adult choir. The wonderful memories of performing this, I find this 11 years after it’s been posted, ironically it came up on my KZbin after watching Dimash, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. Thank you for the nostalgia ❤

Forty odd years ago I heard Ian Wallace sing this with the English facetious words beginning:' Oh Aunt Jemima, look at your Uncle Jim, he's in the fishpond learning how to swim! First he does the backstroke, then he does the side, and now he's under water swimming against the tide!' It brought the house down. It also locked the tune in my mind forever.

In "Three Men in a Boat", the comic work by Jerome K. Jerome, the narrator tells of a past trip on the Thames with a young lady. They are alone in a rowboat, and think they are lost because a familiar landmark has been removed. When they finally realize what has happened, and that they are on the right path after all, they are so relieved that they sing the soldier's chorus from Faust the rest of the way home. Two amateurs singing this without musical accompaniment outdoors is probably not the best way to appreciate the music. I wonder what words they used. ;) This is an impressive production, but they're making me nervous with those open flames in a theater setting. Great care must be required.
