When I enlisted in the Army my father cursed me out bad.he showed me his Purple Hearts,Combat Infantry Badge, and Jump Wings and told me that I watched to many John Wayne movies and was still yelling at me and told me I was stupid to go into the Army's Infantry.I came back home to see my parents after the 1989 Panama Invasion. My dad saw that I have my Combat Infantrymans Badge and Jump Wings.I never saw my dad cry ever.He wanted me to join the Air Force. My dad had lots of combat experience.

heavy story man, your dad was proud of himself but cared enough for you to not wish you to gain pride in that dangerous way. salute to both of you.

At the 1:00 mark I think is a Carl Gustav 84mm anti tank weapon, and just afterwards is a LAW 66mm anti tank weapon. Does anyone know how many Carl Gustav's and how many LAW's were usually issued to the standard mechanised infantry battalion in the 1980's? And were the Milan also used or Wombats still in service? One more thing is that were the Carl Gustav's issued to each Infantry platoon or did each Infantry company have a small number of them in a separate anti tank section? If anyone knows I'd be interested to find out.

I think that a battalion had something like this. 1) Rifle section - LAW 66mm. 2) Rifle platoon - Carl Gustav 84mm. OR Rifle company - Carl Gustav 84mm in a separate AT section. 3) Milan or Wombats AT platoon in the Fire Support company of the mechanised infantry battalions. I think that the different types of Infantry battalions had different numbers of each weapon, depending on if they were armoured infantry/mechanised infantry/light role Infantry/airborne/RM marines etc, but if anyone knows if I'm right or wrong I'd like to know.

Christhorpe Junction I'm surprised that they had as much AT firepower as that! Cheers for the interesting reply, it is quite a bit more powerful than I thought.

Yeah buddy!I hated mech in Germany and Ft.carson.I was on the ground in Panama with A co.1/508th PIR(Red Devils) sure sucked with flak jacket and lots of ammo going from building to building, block by block.I appreciated it in Iraq with M114 Hummers because we could move fast and dismount on Hadji and shoot them effectively with a platoon. We carried more ammo and body armor which sucked in the summer but Hadji did not like my boys because they loved to shoot at them every combat patrol.AIRBORNE!
