The celebrant of this Mass was an extraordinary churchman, Canon in the Duomo in Milan. I had the chance to meet him afterwards, and he told wonderful stories, including about all the vestural privileges granted to the Chapter by Pius XI, including use of a pectoral cross. If they had been suppressed the news had not reached him.

I love the Ambrosian rite so much, and its traditional liturgical chant so ancient, so rich.

Some differences: No Agnus Dei, Kyrie Eleison said is before the end of Mass, Sign of Peace is done before the Liturgy of the Eucharist, different liturgical calendar (red is worn during Ordinary Time), and the priest blesses all readers -- not just the deacon before the Gospel.

@AdversusHaereses Actually there is. The seminarians in Milan were hoping that Summorum Pontificum applied to their case as well. There is only one Western rite which was left unrevised after VC2 and that was the Bragan.

@ToryAnarchist I do not think there is a revised rite for the Ambrosian rite, it was untouched during the Council.

haha! The answer is no! Just read the information on the upper right corner: "celebrated by Monsignor Vincenzo Vismara, Archdeacon of the Metropolitan Chapter of Milan, Domestic Pelate of His Holiness". And the ambrosian rite is perfectly living and used in Milano and the valleys, it's not a sort an archaeological relic.

Can somebody explain the differences between the Gregorian Rite and the Ambrosian Rite and when was the Ambrosian rite instituted and its jurisdiction?? God Bless!!!

well remember they were an order after saint ambrose, this is a differant rite then the latin church which is what the majority of catholics are roman catholics this is ambrosian catholics, in communion with rome but there is a good chance that some of their mass is done a bit differant then the tridentine rite. I have never seen one as it is so hard to find.

Leopoldo: They use Latin, which was the language at the time St. Ambrose was bishop of Milan, then the capital of the western empire.

Not exactly, the traditional Ambrosian rite is in Latin. The modernized Ambrosian rite is usually celebrated in Italian. This is the traditional, in Latin.

Yes, the guy on the right was a complete annoyance. I assisted at this Mass, a third of those in the sanctuary were Americans, but I think he's Neapolitan. Complete spaz. Im just glad he wasnt there for other Masses.
