@Ali_Mansour_Editor
@Ali_Mansour_Editor 5 жыл бұрын
No doubt. The axle parts added up fast. I have over a grand just in the new ball joints and brakes. However, the cost of these parts would have been the same had I started off with a Tacoma or any other rig for that matter. The fact that the S-10 was so much cheaper than a double cab Taco made it much easier to justify.

I wish I was smarter so I could understand this crap. I feel like I legit need a step by step. "first find this axle on this car, take it off, like this, put rebuilt it like this, don't have the tools? Take it here to get it redrilled. Now that ut's been redrilled you need this that and that, put them in like this." Cause while I'm sure car guys totally understand what you're talking about, lil ol' amateur boy over here don't understand a lick of this other than, I got a front axle and a rear axle and a new cap on the axle that allows for draining and filling. The rest of it was gibberish to me lol

Even with a 350, a 5.38 gear is right for 37" tires if using a 700R-4, or 4L60E. Trying to go 9% taller with 25% less engine sounds like a recipe for disaster.
@Ali_Mansour_Editor
@Ali_Mansour_Editor 5 ай бұрын
I’ve been driving this truck for five years with the 4l60e, 5.38 gears and original V6. It’s not great on the highway, but the 4spd Atlas transfer case gives it all the gear reduction it needs to easily move the 40’s on the trail. I still may LS swap it one day, but it’s proven that it can do everything I need it to do time and time again.

Amazing build but isn’t the point of a mid sized rig to be narrow. Wouldn’t throwing tons under her kinda defeat the purpose. Wouldn’t a better option be like toy60s or something narrow. Not hating at all just new to shit like this and would love answers.

Just out of curiosity, since you used a Super Duty front axle, why didn't you use a Super Duty rear axle? Not knocking anything, I'm just curious.
@Ali_Mansour_Editor
@Ali_Mansour_Editor Жыл бұрын
It was two things. 1) I didn’t want to have the Super Duty bolt pattern as it was going to require custom beadlocks that were more expensive. 2) I had already sourced the 14 bolt and didn’t have a line on a Sterling rear.

You mention panels. The crew cab beds are rare as hens teeth.. least around here. They're actually the beds used in South America IIRC. Also, no one makes rocker panels, I believe you have to splice together a set of extended cab rockers. Something to that affect anyway. Fuel tank is apparently also unique to the CCs and last I looked you couldn't get a replacement. And so I don't sound like a negative nancy. Can't wait to see the rest of the build. I personally have a set of 86 Waggy axles I want to put under an extended cab... keepin it simple, Dana 44s, 35s, leaf springs, 4.30s (Gonna swap the rear for a 96-97 Rodeo D44 which generally come with 4.30 gears, will just match the front).
@Ali_Mansour_Editor
@Ali_Mansour_Editor 4 жыл бұрын
OS RR That’s a fair point. I actually had a different crew cab S-10 before this one. The bed was destroyed from an accident. I took a little work, but I was able to locate a bed. It has $800! I think if this bed ever gets crinkled beyond repair, I will look into just cutting up a set of regular S-10 bed sides or do some sort of custom flat bed. Good luck with your build.

How much would you say it cost you to do that 4 link front end
@Ali_Mansour_Editor
@Ali_Mansour_Editor Жыл бұрын
It's been a few years, but I think it was around 10K in parts to do the entire suspension. You could essentially cut that estimate in half and that's what the front sas would cost if you went the same setup as mine.

John Reddick The truck has actually been finished for a few months now. I had to stop making the videos so I wouldn’t step on the magazine which got the exclusive on everything. I’ve simply been slammed the past couple months, so I haven’t had a chance to get part two rolling. This is a side project for me at this point. Unfortunately, it just hasn’t got the attention that I wish it could give it. The good news is, you’ll see it on the cover a four wheeler magazine next month!

I rarely get over 60 miles per hour due to where I live. I’ve had it up to 70 a few times. It will do it for sure, but any significant incline and it can’t keep overdrive that’s for sure. I only run about 15 psi in the tires on a given day. Airing up to the mid 20s would definitely help. Don’t get me wrong, if I had more time and a LS engine, I would swap it.
