The best way I have found to avoid stripping out the four tri-wing screws on the shell backs is to push the driver down onto the screw with slightly firm pressure to ensure it's properly engaged with the screw, then carefully tighten them slightly before backing the screw out. I bought the silver aluminum ones and I plan on putting them on a pair of joycons I just got back from Nintendo , they both had severe drift and Ninty fixed them for free out of warranty, they did send me back the same pair so I am wondering if the screws will be lose and easier to remove, should I still do that suggested tightening first? I am really nervous about the swap after watching this and another video where the kid screwed up and the right joycon only works wirelessly now because he messed up the connector and he stripped the standoffs , I watched the boxypixel tutorial , he says you have to be very careful when using the machine screws provided in the kit and to not over tighten them , the kids that messed up said he stripped the standoffs and now he cant open it to fix the connector also I play on a full swap, I ordered an aluminum front and back from ali too , the only thing I haven't ordered is a metal kickstand, I know they sell one or did but it might be out of stock and discontinued ,haven't seen any tutorials on the front shell for aluminum, but I assume it will come with it's own machine screws ,I also plan on replacing the digitizer glass because it's scratched I basically got this switch for free - the grip and charger, console and dock only so that is how I am justify the hefty price for the shell swaps in my mind, I just hop I don't mess it up also ordered a RCM x86 but not sure I will attempt install that myself

@@Natsukashii1111 yeah ur right, ur disconnecting alot, the Joy-Stick, the Shoulder buttons and the -/+ button, but that should be it. There is no need to disconnect the rumble, the nfc tag, the battery, the antenna or the infrared-cam. I found it the easiest to keep those attached since u might have alot of problems trying to reconnect those. Especially the camera, if u take ur time and remove the stuff carefully they wont brake, just dont yank on them. If u ask me, the hardest part ist to put back the right joycon, after u disconnected the shoulderbutton located on the battery thingy, but even that is easy if u just remove the button itself from below the trigger connect the button and the flex cable and than just screw it together.

PSA/Advice, if you’re not adept at taking things apart, get someone else to do it for you that is good at it. This is the kind of stuff you have to be good at. Take Wood from beatemups, last time he tried a shell swap he drilled his hand. If you have a family member or friend that’s good at it, have them do it. If someone like this isn’t available, always just proceed with caution and take it slow when starting out, get a real feel for the joycons as well as studying the new shells to see what goes where-ish.

These are so neat, I love the feeling of nice cool metal, I's literally be tempted to like swap between joycons once they got warm from my hands (I mostly play handheld) and then swap back just to have them feel all cool again xD If they made a version of these cases for the Hori Split Pad, which I use more because I'm always worried about ruining my nice switch controllers, I'd probably do this, although honestly if I had the spare cash I'd also consider getting a set of decent knock-off joycons and putting the metal shell on those, because there is just absolutely no way that I'd tear down a genuine joycon with how much they cost (I only have the one pair that came with my switch for that reason). I also do just love tinkering with things. So freaking cool, and that silver is purty.
