I'm glad you covered this, I'm a bowler who only focuses on the hybrid balls (best of worlds), so I would usually get 2 of the same ball, change the surface depending on box finish (1 dull and 1 shiny) and put a strong layout on the dull for control fresh conditions and a weak layout on the shiny when the lanes get toasty.

Great description about finish being a big factor, in the beginning of a set, but as they lane shine, the underlying coverstock starts to show it's true nature. The biggest mystery is the strength of that cover is only going to be know once people start throwing a ball down the lane, that is why so many of us like to see follow-up videos after a player has used the ball in League or tournaments for a while. Because while there are folks out there that love to buy the latest and greatest, there are some of us that want to "wait and see". The Phase 2 was initially a bit of a flop, but as more people and tour players used it, people started to recognize that it was a reliable consistent piece that you could use on a ton of different conditions.

I’m speed dominant and use 360 & 500 pads a lot. But I have an issue with the equipment burning up significantly quicker because of it.

Very correct info here. The main problem is that 99.9999% of people (including many pro shop owners) do not have a good eye judgment of what surface a ball has, without a scanner. My channel attempts to help with this as i do have and make experiments. I hope it will help.

Can you give me some advice I currently have a preowned 14Id idol helios and I’m looking into buying a 14IB hammer scorpion what’s the biggest difference in those two balls I feel like the IDOL hooks a little too much for me. Will the hammer scorpion have a bigger hook or smaller? I don’t know the bowling lingo yet and I am still learning so bear with me lol you’re the only person on KZbin. I’ve seen with both balls in their video

I would have a local pro shop watch you bowl and get those input if possible. Generally speaking those two balls are comparable in performance.
