But Shane, Captain Cook didn't lie about anything. He openly stated there were people living here. He even admired them for their living standards and nonchalance towards his presence. It was Banks who recommended Botany Bay for colonisation, years after Cook was dead. He didn't lie either, he just got it wrong. Cook was a naval officer following orders, he committed no massacre, he came and went peacefully. It was the generations after who killed and dispossessed. So why besmirch Cook! I know its trendy to do so, although highly ignorant. Maybe learn about him first, I can guarantee you will be surprised.

And another thing. Colonisation is no joke - its a nightmare that goes on for generations. The English have been colonised 3 times in the last 2000 years or so, by Romans, Vikings and French, the first one being particularly thorough (although not as thorough as the colonisation of Australia). Its a horrible process that has happened numerous times in history to numerous cultures. Does anyone imagine Australia was going to left out of that process indefinitely, that all nations around the world would just decide to let indigenous Australians continue up to 2021 without interference? It was never going to happen. It doesn't take away the pain. But colonisation was going to come some time. It sucks, but all things must pass, and all things do pass, even good and beautiful things. Easy for a migloo like me to say, of course.
