These are now out nationwide through DirecTv with a one time $99 installation fee for them, you pay the fee and you can get up to 3 C41Ws and a Wireless Video Bridge installed. Also, the USB is not useless, on certain service calls, the technician is required to plug a flash drive into and get system info on satellite signal, power, and various technical info to send to the engineers.

Had DTV when this and the HR 54 were the norm. And that's what we got. I remember having one of the wireless mini clients in my bedroom. They were so god awfully laggy and unresponsive. Awful user experience. The box also ran quite hot. Anyways we canceled the day our contract ended (because of course the bill skyrocketed). And went to streaming for a while. Now with every company wanting and having their own streaming service for their own content it's just cable/satelite 2.0. So I subscribed to a VPN service and make heavy use of Plex now.

I've heard nothing but complaints on various websites about these wireless high tech marvels. I'm still looking it too what could be causing a plague of freezing problems from the Genie DVR to those mini client receivers. You can bet I shall figure it out eventually. Fact is, back in the 80s developed a small decoding board consisting of just five inexpensive IC chips and a few common components which worked beautifully for all non ONTV subscribers. lol, so I do indeed enjoy a mystery now and then to help me stay sharp.....

+GNO, I am not aware of any headphones that work with the digital audio port. You can use the H2510PIN adapter available at Solid Signal to get a pair of RCA analog audio outs that can be adapted to work with wireless headphones.

Great Tutorial. Is there a requirement to provision the hardware with Direct TV? In other words, I purchased my video bridge and C-41w outside of DTV. Should I call DTV to give them MAC address and/or serial numbers of my newly purchased hardware? Also, do you have a tutorial on setting up the video bridge with my whole-home genie?

i don't have a cable outlet in my room, so i can set up the genie in a room with a cable outlet and be able to hook this up in my room? if so, is there a certain distance it has to be, like would it work with the genie downstairs and the wireless connector upstairs?

Generally within 85 feet and about 5 layers of drywall is its range, under ideal conditions, so basically it should if within those numbers. one wall counts as 2 layers of drywall.

No problem, as a wireless certified tech figured I would post some additional info on them. Personally I like them, a lot of techs don't install right, or are upset that they pay less to install is why they either have issues or techs try to talk you out of them. I have installed over 40 c41w and have yet to see an issue with them.

For the C41w you would still need a line of sight for the IR correct or does it also have RF or a separate way to interact (remote to box)?

You can use the RC71 remote in RF mode so you don't need line of sight.

Hey I recently got the genie and these client boxes but I dont have a the wireless video bridge and I was able to watch the tv in an other room for a few days but now it just stoped working and it just says no servers and asks me to try again (which I did multiple times) but no luck do u know if the bridge is needed?

I'm a directv tech...sound like you got the wired clients instead of the wireless ones... If your getting no servers detected on your clients...chances are its an issue with the splitter...or the tech who did the install didn't force a software down load... If the installation was done with in a 30 period...I would call directv to have a Tech come out for service call.

Thank you, very helpful. Only question I have, I currently have the main HR54, and then a mini C51. Does it matter which of the two I run the video bridge to? I am short a port on my splitter and have to go with the second option on the video of running the signal through the bridge and into a receiver.

Cale Krogman the wireless video bridge connects to an open port on your directv splitter not to either HR54 or c51.

Solid Signal, and your video you said if your splitter is full, you could run the signal from the splitter through your Bridge and then out of your Bridge into your receiver. So I was just wondering if it mattered which Genie I connected the bridge in front of.

Yes you can. The Solo can connect via component or composite to the C41. I can't post links in KZbin comments, but if you go to Solid Signal's web site just search for H2510PIN for the component connectors or 10PINCOMPOS for the standard definition connectors.

Can I buy one of these and a bridge and not add to my contract? I just bought one on Amazon but didn't realize it was wireless and I need a bridge. I canceled my order but maybe I shouldn't have. I'm trying to get around going through DIRECTV. I just had them come and run cable to two of my rooms free of charge because I have the insurance. They labeled it as a relocate. I didn't realize when I buy a new mini genie c3 or c41 they need to activate it and it acts like a lease $7 more a month plus a new 2 year contract. This is such bullshit! Why can't I just add more cable boxes :( These guys are Nazis! Comcast is just as bad or worse and I like the DirecTV menu and channel setup better. I would really appreciate some advice and knowledge on this if you can help me. Thank you!

Let's set the record straight. The only reason they call it a 'wireless' mini is because there is no need for a coax cable. It can receive signal wirelessly. This is a good feature because now you can put the box and move it anywhere even after install. But that's where it stops. This whole 'wireless' campaign is a half truth. The box has 2 other wires on it: power and hdmi. So its not wireless. That, and to get one you have to pay the initial fees PLUS a 99 dollar install fee to get it. Plus if it looses signal, which it does, its more trouble than its worth to get fixed even in troubleshooting.
