The specific converters used aren't specified in the literature we have but I will look into it! The product manual should be available on SSL's website shortly as well.

I believe the 4k preamp emulation is different from the 4k emulation on the SSL Bus+

can the monitor knob control outputs 1-6 for surround monitoring?

I believe that can be set up in the SSL 360 software. This features built‑in speaker calibration, surround monitor control, etc.
