Solid Sugar Scrub Rocks

Credit: Original recipe is from Katie Carson of Royalty Soaps.
I'm demonstrating how I make these fun and versatile solid sugar scrub cubes with packaging ideas for them. Great for quick and easy gifts!
Recipe as shown in the video:
10oz granulated sugar
4oz clear melt and pour soap
2oz shea butter
2oz carrier oil (I used grape seed oil)
mica to color (demo'd in video)
couple of droppers of EO or FO to scent (shown in video)

Great video! I made these before with salt & poured too thin. The salt sank to one side. Since it was a test batch I just tried it as a bar to see how it worked. One side was scrubby & the other smooth. It worked great as an in shower 'moisturizer' bar. The other side was a scrubby!

Lol, sometimes an oops comes out pretty good. Salt bars are good too but dont use Epsom salts. Comes out more like dough since its not really a salt. Thanks for watching!

Since your sugar is in a heavy glass measuring cup at room temperature it cools your liquids down really fast. If you set your sugar container on a heating pad or warm it up slightly another way while you get your liquids melted, it should avoid hardening up on you.

I have a few questions. I made some sugar soap and used a soap paste I made. They are pretty cool and because I used potassium hydroxide they never get totally hard, they are moldable. My questions are: 1. Because these are made with MP do they get hard and stay hard? 2. Do they bubble up good? 3. Where did you order those bags from...they are too stinkin cute! Thanks for enjoying the video. Ok. Yes, they stay solid yet easy to crush up. No, you dont get crazy bubbles because the added oils/butters cut that but the purpose is to be a scrub with a bit of cleasnser. And, the bags i purchased off Amazon. I'll try to find and paste links for you.

Hi Alisha, the stand up Kraft bags are from Amazon. There are a variety of companies that have them and the size I used are the 5x8.

I know it has been awhile since you made this video, but I have a question. I made an attempt to make a sugar scrub and I used goat's milk. Is this a good idea or should you stay with shea butter. I am not sure which melt and pours you can or cannot use. thank you in advance

Hello. I regards to the melt and pour soap in the recipe, you can use any kind you like. I use regular clear mp because that's what I have but shea mp or goat milk mp is just fine too.

Thanks! They're so fun and easy to make. the PET jars came from Wholesale Supply Plus and they are the 8oz size. I now use 5x8 stand up pouches with a window. Holds more product and the customers like the pouches. You can find them on Amazon.

Take a look at your recipe. If you have too much oil and butters and not enough mp soap in it. It will kill any lather. Good luck!

Yes, regardless of the type of melt and pour soap you choose, you still need the butter in the recipe or it won't have much moisturizing properties. Thanks for watching.

Still I don’t get it how you use this. Can you just use it as a soap meaning drag it on the skin ?

Thanks for asking. The cubes are generally too small to just drag on the skin so what you want to do is take one or two and in the shower or bath, crush them in your hand with a bit of water then rub on your skin to exfoliate and massage the oils/butters into the skin. Rinse and you're done!

Hello there, it's Deb year. I am new to your channel and I am enjoying watching so far. I was curious as to where you got your bags for your Sugar scrubs. I like the packaging it is very professional which is something I am looking for for my sugar scrubs as well. I do have the 8 oz Plastic containers but I much prefer the sleep design of the bags. Hi Deb. Thanks for watching. The bags came from Amazon. A company called Sundirect, I think. These are the 6x4 size. They have a nice waxy coating so no leaking.

It's possible. I'd make sure to keep them out of direct sunlight. I've also gone as far as bringing an empty cooler to keep them in until a customer makes a purchase. But at that show it was 113 degrees that day...everything was melting!

They are temperature sensitive as they're supposed to be. Solid at cold or room temps. Then when you get them wet in hot bath or shower, the butters and melt and pour soap start to melt for use.

The purpose of the butters is to contribute to room temperature solidity and marketing appeal to have a luxurious ingredient. I suspect you could make these without a butter but you'd have to definitely modify the recipe to achieve the same solid, cube consistency after setting.

That's a tough question to answer for another business. You need to determine your unit costs for just one of the scrubs that you plan on selling(product, packaging, and labor) and also based on your selling platform(etsy, eBay, amazon) and location (tourist city or small town)that will determine your retail price. Personally, I can comfortably sell mine for $8-$10 for a 5.5oz bag based on my unit costs and what the customers in my area are comfortable spending. Good luck.

Assuming you're in the USA, here is a link to the FDA and you can view the info. But, generally you will list the ingredients in order of quantity used in the recipe, so with this recipe, granulated sugar will list first. www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/Labeling/Regulations/ucm126444.htm
