I'll be honest, the skill gems being taken away from gear slots/colors is one of the biggest selling points to me. I HATED that part of POE1. It felt so arbitrarily tiring to try and farm/buy/recraft gear just to get the proper socket colors and links. I cannot wait for POE2. I knew going into this that I would invest in this game more than 1 as I didn't start 1 till a few seasons ago, but this reveal blew my expectations out of the frickin water.

The fact that apparently you can only get sockets on unique's through vaaling is very very nice. It kinda feels like they took some lessons from Last Epoch here. But with the PoE twist. Where uniques have a huge range in power. Difference is we can, and will, brick a lot of them in the process.

Is this true? I thought you could get 1 or 2 from a currency then an additional one from vaal

@spencers1485 I assume. The socket orb doesn't work on uniques. Would be busted AF if it did.

Overall it seems like a lot of knowledge of PoE1 would translate to PoE2, a lot of passives are similar, a lot have the same names etc. Focus seems like offhand. Loot is finally something that I wanted for a long time in PoE since 2014 or something, I don't think people would go with item rarity, this system is more about getting good stuff regardless of what you do, but if you want a chance of getting something better you can go with rarity.

One of builds im theoruycrafting is int/mana Stacking es/MOM/CI Acolyte of Chayula with one of suports wich gives you more damage more mana you have (tho this support is on PoE DB so it may not be in game)

GGG had mentioned that the focus MTX will work on shields in PoE 1 so I think your guess is correct about those being an es offhand

It also makes sense given that blocking with shields is an active skill now rather than a passive chance and fits better with warrior archetypes

The Raise Shield skill is specifically on strength aligned shields, and only blocks hits and projectiles, but not big AoE slams, from the direction you're facing (at 100% chance) - at the cost of slowing you down and having a stance meter that depletes with each block. Passive block is still very much there, and works as usual, capped at 75%.

@tenkiei 7:16 I am also concerned about rarity. Important to note though that if poe2's character rarity functions the same as poe1's character rarity. It will not be additive as you described at this timestamp. 200% character rarity would be a 3x multiplier against the rarity of the boss so in your example 19,000% boss rarity x 3 = 57,000% not 19,200%. Which could make rarity mandatory on every slot based on the effects they have described.

To be fair, rolling a .5 or even a .8 on that vaal result would ruin the Unique, which is pretty close to destroying it outright even if that isn't a possible result anymore. I imagine it still is though.
