The Bunny Model in the video was created using a different program than SOLIDWORKS, which I then imported into SW and used as an example. It was based on one of the first ever 3D scanned models. The Stanford Bunny, which has been used as an open source 3D test model since 1994. Here's a link for more details on the model:graphics.stanford.edu/data/3Dscanrep/

Great video, straight to the point. I do agree that it would be useful if you stated your version of solidworks, but nonetheless thanks for the help!

I like the knit method. It seems more like the combine command for solids.

You need to always mention what version of SW you're working with. Mine is 2018 and Thicken doesn't have "Create solid from enclosed volume" option. Only "Merge results".
@simeonwhyle6744
@simeonwhyle6744 2 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem with it only showing the "Merge" option until I released I had a gap in my surfaces slightly larger than the "knit surface" command "knitting tolerance" was fixing. Once I increased the kitting tolerance so that it fixed up the gap I had, then I was able to proceed and select "create solid from enclosed volume" using the "Thicken" tool. Hope that helps!

None of them works. I created a simple box with enclosed surfaces and then knitted them together to create a solid body. The object still appears hollow in the section view. I tried the same thing with the thicken feature in which the "Create Solid from Enclosed Volume" check box appears. still appears hollow in section view

How do you do this for .3MF / .STL / .OBJ etc tyvm The thicken command just won't lit with any of the many models I have Surface knit is also greyed out. How do I turn other extensions into a format that the 'Thicken' function could be accessed?

This crappy program pisses me off. The "Thicken" operation has no checkbox, and the second operation, ie combining surfaces with creating a solid, does not work. I check the option and I only have joined surfaces. No errors, no error messages.

Use the Offset Surfaces command with a 0.00 offset. 1) Select all the outer surfaces of the solid you want to convert. 2) Use Offset Surfaces to apply a surface offset of 0.00. 3) Delete or Hide the referenced body from the Solid Bodies folder.
