Any idea how to add(or simulate) movement for intake and exhaust valves , trying to simulate combustion in a cylinder ?

Hi. There is a setting the "Calculation Control Options" to turn-on transient. It is in one of the tabs on the dialog. You can set the end-time and time step size, and the frequency for saving results at certain time steps. Hope that helps!

Yes. If you can describe the path of the knot with points in xyz space to represent a centerline path (say, in Excel for example), you can open that directly in SW and it will build a 3D curve for you. From that, you can sweep a surface or hollow solid. You might need to check with your VAR on how to do that, however, as I am unsure of the exact procedure.

Can i have a copy of the excel sheet? I have created an intake manifold, but i'm uncertain how to simulate the flow in a running engine.

You can create an angular momentum of fluid to simulate the rotor motion (but it won't directly spin the rotor). In SolidWorks Flow Simulation, you create a dummy body of fluid surrounding the turbine and rotate the fluid in the opposite direction of the rotor. You might need to contact your VAR about how to do this, but I know the software can do it.

Hi. It is just referring to the airflow as transient due to flow paths changing over time. If only one valve was open and stayed open, then you could run a "steady state" air flow analysis to observe the flow. The flow paths would not change with time. The title should probably be "...transient airflow in a manifold...". Sorry about the confusion.

Yes. Look in the help files for "porous material". You can install filters at different porosities.

In a flow simulation of fluid flowing in a series of pipes, in a region of high turbulence in the pipe, how can I find the velocity of flow at a certain point in the high turbulent region over a period of time. Say for example, velocity at that point at 5 seconds, 10 sconds, 15 seconds, etc? Please I'd appreciate a response. Thank you!

you can draw a sketch line through the point you want to monitor, then use the xy-graph utility to examine the velocity magnitude at saved time points in the solution (you have to tell the software at what time points to save results prior to the run). Tutorials which come with it have xy plot examples, or contact your VAR for more details. thanks

Hi Sigsite! Is it possible to simulate things such as heatsinks? Lets say I desing a heatsink, and I select the part of which is supposed to be in contact with the chip. Could I select the surface of that part, increase the temperature to any value, and see the heat spreading through the heatsink as well as seing the surrounding air get hotter and rise? Thank you!

Like for example, how do I define that the air around the heatsink actually is air, and the heatsink itself is aluminum?

I need to graph a parametric equation that looks like two knots. It's messy because the knots expand in spots and are ultamitely the hollow sections within a greater solid. Basically, I need to do this thing with a 3-D printer. Can SolidWorks graph a messy parametric equation?

I did everything in this video, but I cannot figure out how to view the flow as shown in the video. I can only show flow trajectories which only shows portions of the entire time frame. Any advice would be awesome!

AMRome102 litle late to hope you figured it out...you need to click on animations under the trajectory tree, and than create an animation of the entire scenerio. There is places on youtube to find this.

Hello sir, I m doing the same analysis. but during animation of flow trajectories the vectors not shift or change there path. Do not know why. Checked the xls and other input variable but it doesnot work.

@GaboD1000 Yes, generate a cut plot (or some other plot), right-click on that and choose "animation", then use the "Wizard" button and choose option "Scenario" to load the 20 files all at once. Then insert a control point on the time line of the plot and stretch to the end. We do't have that any longer. Sorry. It it just a sine function with step size delta-T set to a number of milliseconds.

it was arbitrarily placed against a sine function - only to demonstrate the software (it is unknown if the sine function is 'correct' behavior).

It is "fake" data. It is just an upside-down sine function generated in Excel, scaled from atmospheric pressure to some arbitrary value to cause the air to exit the chamber. It is only for demonstration purposes.

dude .. How in the planet hell did you create this Animations ???? every time i choose flow trajectories and try to create a scenario animations all i get is a non-moving arrows or lines with changes in the color .. the scenario works good only with "3D-plot & cut-plan" ..... so i was forced to creat a simulation for every iteration and then put them together with a movie editing software ... you can see it among my videos
