If you’re interested in learning more about what is involved in a day’s shooting for each film I make, then watch this film of my lovely walk in part of the valley of the River Dove as I explain a little about it.
Filmed in the Peak District in the counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Locations include Hartington, Biggin Dale and Beresford Dale.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Special thanks to Dennis and Jan Kelsall and Visit Peak District and Derbyshire for their information used in my research for this film.

"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler
There is also a short “Introduction to the Solitary Rambler” video, which briefly explains what my films are all about: / solitaryrambler
DISCLAIMER: Although I work hard to ensure all information is correct to the best of my knowledge, I am only featuring information I have found online and/or in books during my research when putting this film together, so I cannot guarantee that there are no mistakes or errors.
Many thanks and I hope you enjoy watching!

My favourite place. I had a caravan on a seasonal pitch in Biggin for 10yrs.until my wife died nearly 3 yrs ago. Many times walked down to biggin. Used to come every morning for newspaper. And often go to cafe. The one just past Charles cotton on Rd to Hulme end. Sir outside with my breakfast. Prefer there ice cream mind you.. Frequently go back with fond memories. And go on Tissington trail with my bike

A misty start to your walk but gave atmosphere to your scenes. As always some beautiful views. I know how you feel about talking to camera, but it doesn't show!. I understand the time taken to your filming too- setting up your camera in different positions too. A lot of dedication Patrick, but worth it with your results.

Thanks Shanita, yes those misty shots were lovely at the start weren't they, but it was nice that the mist cleared very quickly. That's the beauty with editing, I always make sure I've used the best takes of when I'm talking to the camera! 😆 Thought it might be nice to give a little insight into a typical day's filming. I liked those few misty shots at the start, but it was good that it cleared very quickly too. I jsut felt it would be nice to give a little insight into what's involved in a typical day's filming following some comments I've had in recent times. It certainly is nice to be recognised, so I will always give those a shout out when I can, but I think that's been happening more now since I've been making much more local films to where I live during the past year or so. Thanks for all that hard work making the film, not just during the day but at home too with the editing and music etc,and thankyou for sharing, always a treat when a new Solitary Rambler comes along, enjoyed the look around Hartington and the insight into making the films, which I always understood and appreciated, and your thoughts when filming around people, which I completely agree with,I suppose when the very short days are here it makes it much more difficult to film everything in a day,all the best Patrick.

Thanks Pete, I just thought it might be nice to give a bit of insight into what's involved in a day's filming as some have recently asked how long my walks take. Another fantastic video Patrick. Understandable why it takes along time to complete a walk. I must admit, I've only got one or two videos of my channel, but I'm the same as you, I hate the thought of filming with people around unless I'm comfortable with them. Plus I don't like the sound of my own voice on video. But, there we are. Can't wait for the next one. Keep them coming!

Thanks for the compliments and for watching Jamie. When you've made more videos you'll probably become more confident about filming with people around. I'm better than I was a few years ago, but still get uncomfortable talking to the camera in front of others. All the best 👍

Another fab walk Patrick. We’re so fortunate to have those Dales close to home. I don’t think I’ve ever passed through Hartington before so I’ll check that out as it looks a stunning little place. It’s interesting to see just how much time and effort you put into your films. I’m exactly the same as you as I’ll stop recording to camera if I see other people. I always think it must look strange to others seeing someone talking to a camera. I’ve not been recognised yet by strangers as a result of the KZbin channel. I’m not as famous as you though 😆

Thanks Anthony, yes I always feel so lucky to live in this area. Surprised to learn you've not been to Hartington, I guess I always assumed you would have explored all places as I know how much you know and love the Peak District too. Worth visiting though, just get there early as it's like Castleton - busy!! 😁 I've had people coming up to me before now when I've been talking to the camera and I've not realised they've been there, so that's made me embarrased at the time! 😆 Although my film making has overall been going on since the early 90's, I've only been uploading to KZbin since 2015, but it's just this last year that I've been approached by people who've recognised me because I've been making more films in my local area. I've no doubt you'll get approached too before long Anthony! 😁
