You can get a lot for less than 5 miles Patrick. There was certainly enough in this walk to satisfy any person for the rest of the day. With each video I appreciate how much walking you've done. Ha, another pub you know well and views that never tire. Enjoyed my time walking with you. Always good. Mark

Hi Mark, yes not bad for 5 miles eh. It was nice filming this one as it was the first walk I did after just moving to the area years ago. Yes, I'm looking forward to revisiting the Flying Childers pub soon, it's the views when you sit out the front that make it a special place. Hey I see it's your birthday today too so a very happy birthday Mark and hope you enjoy your special day. All the best. Patrick 👍

Spectacular video Patrick! What's fascinating about the moors is you're walking through history. There will be historical remains that haven't been discovered yet. The moorland landscape is gorgeous when the heather is in flower. Incredible views on Stanton Moor. Thanks for sharing, take care, Jordan.

Patrick, Many thanks for bringing back the memories from long ago for this part of The Peak. I rambled and camped in the Peak back in the 50s and 60s which was probably a good time as there weren't so many people around then although it has always been a popular area for obvious reasons. Like you Stanton in Peak is my favorite village although due to its elevation it must be a real challenging place to live in the middle of winter. Yes dont fancy that at all but on a good day like yours absolutely stunning. Even in this stunning area there has to be a man made blot on the landscape this being the battery recycling plant normally spewing out no doubt toxic fumes although from your vid I couldn't see the usual smoke. Fingers crossed that it might have closed down and moved to China. In my time there were still derelict machinery left over from the stone quarrying which made great places to play for a small boy. The Ann Twyford quarry was still in operation ( and still is I believe but under s different name) and if you visited at the weekend when no one was about you could wonder in and have a look around. There were still the old reciprocating saws there and some machinery for cutting out the grit stone grinding wheels with piles of the cut out blanks where the spindle would have fitted. A few of these cores found their way onto our rockery. Have spent many a pissie night with my mates at the Druids pub then stumbling back to our tents at Winster. There was a bowling green right in front of the pub but has been turned into a car park. You could go and look at the so called Druids carvings chiseled into the rocks at the back of the pub but that cost you a penny. Left Blighty for good way back in 1970 for the Colonies but have been back on holiday twice since, the last being 96. Just had to have a pint in the Druids. I still do visit Stanton and Derbyshire but now by Google you know Little Man on the road which is a small consolation but as near as I will now ever get.

Another great episode! The many standing stones you came across looks interesting, especially the Cat's Stone you looked at the end. Birchover and Stanton in Peak looks tranquil, and the soundtrack for the Earl Grey Tower at 16:58 sounds triumphant; the credits soundtrack also sounds nice too. The Earl Grey Tower reminds me of Flounders' Folly in Shropshire (outside Ludlow); ironically I visited it for the first time three days after you filmed this episode, and I climbed it up and the views looked breath-taking. Looking forward to more episodes! :-)

Good to see another video from you, Patrick and one, by the sounds of it, you hold in high regard. Also sounds like you've hopefully had both doses by now, which is good to hear. I almost forget now, how much of a relief it was to have things eased at the end of March. I'm quite concerned by the next stage in two weeks' time. All the best and hope you're keeping well.

You know where you first entered t'moor, immediately behind you, across the road, in that wood descending down is another stone ring, but hidden away from sight in undergrowth and trees. I only know this because I used to handle O. S. map requests at DCC/County Offices and thus saw, not only the, then, latest plan requests from the then 1994/5 mainframe licence issuance but also the much more detailed (in my opinion) old style 1:10,000, 1:1250 and 1:2500 on acetate sheets, then held in the map tanks, latterly in the RIU resource just inside the C. Offs main entrance.
