YORKSHIRE DALES WALK FEATURING SETTLE, STAINFORTH FORCE, RIBBLEHEAD VIADUCT AND DENTDALE
"Riverside of Ribblesdale"
Filmed 2nd September 2014
Post-production completed 4th October 2014
At the start of September 2014 I spend a week in the wonderful Yorkshire Dales. During my first day I arrive in Settle and explore the Ribblesdale valley to the river's source. As with many places I visit I think back to the time when I made my very first trip to the Dales way back in 1988.
Filmed in the counties of North Yorkshire and Cumbria featuring Ribblesdale. Locations include Settle, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Ribblehead and Dentdale. This is the first film in the Yorkshire Dales.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.
Click here for a map showing the route of the locations used in the film. It is not a walking route, but it shows the route on which I travelled by both car and foot between the various locations featured in the film: osmaps.ordnanc...
"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler
There is also a short “Introduction to the Solitary Rambler” video, which briefly explains what my films are all about: / solitaryrambler

Many thanks and I hope you enjoy watching!

11:01 - You brought back some great memories from walks we had up there. The Blea Moor signal station mark the half way point to the waterfalls further along that path. In the spring they are often noisy, and in the summer they are ideal to cool off, although you dont get to see them from the path. It carries on in a circle and you end up on the crest of Whernside, with spectacular views, if it isnt clouded over. Ingleborough hill also has a nice walk, as does Pen-y-gent, and much shorter too!

Riblesdale trip was a great set of towns Settel a loverly town and market reminds me of the market in Leek my old tow. Market when. At home in the 195/6/7s before moving to Leeds University .A time of fun and work.Went on the Penineway way with friends at uni during my holiday in 1976 and the 3 peaks walk that gave me the opportunity to go down several mines with marvellous rock formations. At home went to the blue John mines in Buxton area.

Not to far from our neck of the woods Patrick , myself and lee , travelled up the settle Carlisle during a week in august -2015 , she,d never been on it before and was blown away with the spectacular sceney , enjoyed on the journey , id forgot just how steep a climb the line took , just after ribblehead , but I hadn't forgot the beautiful landscapes that awaited us .... The ribblehead viaduct is an absolutely wonderful work of art in my opinion , and were planning on gojng back to stand below the arches , and photograph them soon , also I want to show lee the monument built below the central span to mark as a reminder of the guys that built but also lost their life during the construction of this mammoth piece of history... Also nice to see the beginning of the River Ribbles Journey , this same river passes very close to our house , as doe,s the Ribble Steam Railway .... Settle is a charming little town ,and it was nice to see it featured in your film ... Thank you so much once again Patrick a very enjoyable journey .... Frank And lee......

I spent 5 days night in the Yorkshire Dales back in September 2014, so this is the first of 4 films I made in that area during my stay. I've never travelled on the Settle to Carlisle Railway, it's always been on my to-do list, so one day! Having visited most of the area through which it runs I can believe what people say when it's considered the most scenic railway in Britain. As you say the Ribblehead viaduct is a wonderful work of art. I love Settle too and did revisit it briefly when I was back up that way last November. Thank you Frank and Lee. Cheers, Patrick :-)

For some reason, Patrick, I always thought of Settle being just a small village, rather than a town like it is. I got that impression with thinking it was because most other locations on the Settle and Carlisle railway are smaller. Anyway, it looks quite a nice place to visit, and the three notable mountains are all nearby, too. Looks like a grand little market as well. Stainforth Force are impressive warterfalls, and the Ribblehead viaduct is a most classic structure of civil engineering. I have travelled that line once, and I did think that the area looked lovely from the train. Many thanks for an interesting video, Patrick.

Settle is a lovely town, would make a great base if I ever return to the Yorkshire Dales. There are so many lovely waterfalls in the Dales, Stainforth Force being another lovely one of course. Yes the Ribblehead viaduct is really impressive, would love to travel on the train over myself one day. Thanks Ffranc for watching 👍
