"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler
There is also a short “Introduction to the Solitary Rambler” video, which briefly explains what my films are all about: / solitaryrambler

What beautiful and soothing music you create, Patrick. It really sets the tone of the walk. It's a lovely area but i feel that it wasn't quite your day. I felt the head knock myself then you nearly fell in the river, it made me chuckle. Thanks for all the work you put in to bring us these. I told a former work colleague to check out your channel, so hes subscribed. The more, the merrier. Cheers.

It;s a great week to take off, although there were still a lot of people around when I filmed this. Still I guess it would have been busier still during the summer holidays. Yes Wolfscote Dale is indeed beautiful with all its rocky outcrops and grassy open country. Alstonefield is a lovely village too. Thanks as always for watching Frank and Lee 👍

Another really enjoyable walk, just love the music which I can still hear ok with tinnitus. Mill Dale is indeed beautiful . Dove Dale has always been crowded when I’ve visited. And yes I’ve not walked this part. I also like Iilam and have visited Dovedale from there. Thank you for sharing this lovely area.

Thanks again Kathryn. Really pleased you like the music which for me is a major part of my film making. I always know Dovedale gets crowded hence gettng there extra early on this particular day to capture those shots before everyone else invaded the area. Many thanks again for commenting and for taking the time to watch 👍

Such realistic views on your walk. I almost feel I am there. I have never heard of Wolfscote Dale before. I have stayed in Eylam youth hostel though, also Hartington Hall Hostal. Lovely melody flute music. My goodness that head bump looked painful coming out that cave ! and nearly another trip into the water from stone crossing!

Hi Shanita, Wolfscote is stunning isn't it. Ah so you'll remember both Ilam Hall and Hartington Hall then. They are still both open as Youith Hostels. Glad you liked the flute music, it is a slightly different version of the theme I used in the previous film. That was quite painful and I was still feeling a bit dazed when I almost fell in the Dove, but I thought it would be fun to keep those shots in anyway 🤣 Thanks as always Shanita for your kind comments and for watching 👍

Your lovely video brought back memories of long lost summer days walking through that wonderful scenery with the one I loved who is no longer there to share it with. Fair brought a tear to the eye. Another great spectacle of English countryside. Nice video Patrick. It's amazing that you produce such a variety of music for your channel. Each one is different. I loved to see the wide open spaces here too. It's a great weekend to wake up to one of your videos. I've never been to Hayfield. Just heard about it, related to Kinder Scout. I will watch this again later. My old school teacher passed away recently. It was he who introduced us in the school Cross Country team in Liverpool to the Derbyshire area. He organized a school relay team to break the running record for completing the Pennine Way in about two days. But he took us to Derbyshire to train and recce part of the route. Take care Patrick. Have a nice weekend.

A very eventful walk there Patrick. I love that area. It’s equally as beautiful as Dovedale but it’s so much quieter isn’t it. Agree that August weather was shocking again. I can’t remember the last year we actually had good weather in August. I wonder if you need to employ a stunt double if you’re going to start headbutting things and falling in rivers 😆. Another fab film. Always look forward to your videos

Cheers Anthony, it was certainly less busy that the previous day when I was in Dovedale, but I'm sure it would have been a lot busier during the summer holidays. I'm just wearing a hard hat and wet suit for future films! 🤣 Thanks as always Anthony for your kind words and for watching 👍
