I would really love if armchair admirals played this sometime. It seems so hype. Especially maybe in the async mode where the turns don't all weirdly glitch out.

"You can only spend 8 tokens per turn because that's just a random rule" Nooo, that's a brilliant rule - and brilliant for its simplicity. It goes some way to (potentially, but probably not) solving the Spiff problem. How does Spiff play any game? Examine the economy, find the loophole which allows how to gain more of the economy, loop, and then win by simply being able to throw the economy at the other players. No offence to the bloke, he's just using what's there (he's not actually THE problem, he's just emblematic of it by having enough of an audience to be the face of exploits), but it is the basic problem of a lot of artificial economies, right? So preventing the most basic fiscal abuse tactics by effectively introducing regulation, is a good solution.

Another sneaky little thing about the consolidation mechanic is that if someone consolidates and doesn't spend that coin right away there is a danger that someone else can steal it. A truly devastating loss for the victim and huge boon for the thief.

I really like this game for multiplayer. I'm not sold that it has enough depth to sustain single player play for a long time, though I do think the systems are clever and a lot of thought went into the design. The aesthetic is pretty neat, but I think the 3D models of the archfiends can come off as a bit goofy compared to the still art used for most things. For a multiplayer strategy game though it really seems to work.

Daltos is getting the timeline mixed up when he says the Abrahamic God is based on Zeus. If we're talking about the emergence of proto-Judaism, we'd be looking at the Bronze-Age collapse and Early Iron Age following it, and at that time Zeus was a minor sky spirit amongst the Greeks*. Not only that, but the Greek* pantheon is a part of the Proto-Indo-European family, something which is not true of the Fertile Crescent religions. That's why ancient Judaism shares, for example, a Divine Courtroom motif with ancient Akkad and Sumer. In practice, pre-First Temple religion was a monalatrist faith that syncretically combined aspects of Egyptian religion (which can be seen in things like how the Ark is constructed, priestly garments, etc.**) with a fairly different theology that placed El (the Canaanite word that means "god" and also the generic title of whatever the chief deity is understood as) as not only chief but supreme amongst the other gods (as well as the theoretical but not always practical rejection of practices like human sacrifice). What Daltos seems to have gotten confused over is how the medieval Dante and 17th century Milton were both huge Romaboos, both of whom also often conflated Greek and Roman religion (which were NOT the same, fight me) and therefore included gods and creatures from these mythologies because, why not? They're cool, and the reverence felt is not derived from a religious awe, so why not indulge in them as characters and inspiration as a part of their time's equivalent of kitchen-sink Urban Fantasy? Something which is also evident in, for instance, Renaissance art, because the majority of European civilizations have been teeming with Romaboos since Rome was a thing. *If we're talking about that period of history, it would be more accurate to say Mycenaeans than Greeks. The Greeks of Classical antiquity saw themselves as the successors/descendants of the Mycenaeans, and they were, but the Greeks were also descended culturally from other groups in the area as well, like (possibly) the ancient Arcadians or the bronze-age Minoans, and obviously a lot changed since the collapse. In Mycenaean times Poseidon was the most important god, mainly because of his Earthshaker epithet. Poseidon is both the god of the seas and earthquakes, and in Mycenaean times cthonic gods of the earth and the underworld was more important. Note that the Iliad and the Odyssey are set in Mycenaean times, composed in the transitory period during the dark ages, and written in Classical Antiquity, and feature Odysseus getting messed up for annoying Poseidon. **In the Bronze Age Egypt had an empire that included large parts of Canaan and Sinai, amongst other holdings, and they did resettle people, and a lot of the Egyptian influences are rooted in the practices of the Priesthood, who were all from the tribe of Levi. This has led some people to suggest that the Exodus was based on a smaller-scale emigration from Egypt consisting of the Levites sometime right before, during or right after the loss of their hegemony over the region, who then integrated into the other tribes of Israel somehow, though knowing if they had a pre-existing relationship with the other tribes or were essentially newcomers is basically a big shrug, where all the details are lost to the sands of time.

I've managed to play one game of this with some friends and it's fiendishly good. One of my favourite things is the assynch turns and Steam notifications meaning we don't have to perfectly schedule game sessions. My game ended with me nearly winning before getting knocked out by a mate, who then got excommunicated (unable to win via prestige) and was one turn away from losing the game before he knocked out the final player and took a domination victory. Would love to see these guys play some more!

I find it hilarious that the guy playing Mammon never figured out that his Chains of Avarice dark power was a diplomacy option. If he had made it a point to start spamming that power on Beelzebub, it would have kept him in the game longer, because if Beelzebub had accepted it, he wouldn't have been able to make demands, or declare vendettas against Mammon while the Chains of Avarice was ongoing! 🤣🤣🤣 ROFLMAO!!! 🤣🤣🤣

I've been enjoying the game so far but only SP (only bought it last night and played a few) and the AI does feel quite easy to exploit. Still, I imagine MP will be very different and I do enjoy how many different routes to victory there are - even if I dread people using the "Kingmaker's Crown" relic, where they get to "choose a puppet" secretly at the start of the game and they win if that puppet wins (and the puppet loses). I can just imagine the salt of playing a perfect game and realising you lost because even though you won, someone else precicted you'd win so they win instead. I'm guessing you need to max prophecy tree to spy on their relic and see if they have it, but if you discover that too late then it might not give you enough time to kill them off =/

I encountered this kind of situation playing against the AI and thought it was brilliant. I couldn't kill them because after pursing my Vendettas they became the vassal of an Archfiend that I had won no Vendettas against (since to declare a Blood Feud you need to win Vendettas against the Liege), so I had to march on Pandaemonium itself and take it in phase 4 of the election and win the Usurper victory, since they only win if won via specifically Election. It really does show how important it can be to build up Vendettas against everyone, and why it's always a good idea to consider how you might take the capital, as well as show the importance of paranoia and Prophecy (and the diplomatic power that a Prophecy-heavy player could have in multiplayer, even better if they lie).

While a lot of the lore of hell and demons isn't in the bible, or at least most bibles. There are other scripts known as the Apocryphal Scriptures which contain it. These are the texts that contain stuff that never made it into the bible. Among them are early new testament gospels, one of which describes Jesus taming dragons.
