This year, the Daisekkei route has been temporarily shut down due to the ice melting, starting from August 27, and it is scheduled to reopen next year. As an alternative, I opted for the alternative traverse route, starting from Tsugaike Nature Park to reach Mt. Shirouma. This path entails a longer trek when compared to the Daisekkei route.
I spent about 8 hours hiking to Mt. Shirouma and stayed at Hakuba Sanso. The next day, I hiked back for another 7 hours. Undoubtedly, the hike proved to be physically demanding. If I had the chance to choose a different approach, I would have stayed at Hakuba Oike Sanso and then trek to Mt. Shirouma the following day. Afterward, I would spend the night at Hakuba Sanso and hike back to Tsugaike Nature Park on the next day.

The hike looked amazing! May i know which month did you do this trip on? I'm planning to visit during October this year, but would that be too late to catch the autumn foilage?

I went hiking last year in mid-September. The best time to see autumn foliage in Hakuba is from mid to late October. If you visit around that period, you'll catch the foliage at its peak.

Hi! I love your video, really inspiring! I am planning to do the same hike and booked my accoms at Villa Happo too. Could you please share the public transport route you took from Villa Happo to Tsugaike trailhead? Was it convenient or would you suggest staying somewhere else? Thanks!

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. 😊🙏 Villa Happo is a good place to stay. I stayed there the night before my hike due to limited time. I took a local bus from Hakuba Station to Tsugaike, which arrives earlier than the Alpico bus. If you want to get there before 9:00 AM, I recommend taking the local bus to Tsugaike Mountain Resort (Gondola). However, I believe it's more convenient to stay near Tsugaike and begin your hike early the next morning. It all really depends on your schedule and itinerary, but I hope you have a wonderful hike.

@@hellosushi345 That's fantastic! Are you planning to hike all the way to Hakuba Sanso, or will you stay overnight at Hakuba Ōike Sansō? Don't worry, the trails are well marked and easy to follow.

This is a popular hiking trail, so you'll meet many hikers along the way. The path is well-maintained, making it easy to follow and hard to get lost. Hiking solo is definitely safe, but make sure to check the weather conditions.

Hello there! You can start from Hakuba station. I suggest spending the night in Hakuba or, ideally, Tsugaike for an early start. Staying near Tsugaike gives you a head start, and from there, you'll take the ropeway to reach the trail's starting point. If you stay in Hakuba, you can take the first local bus to Tsugaike Ropeway Station at around 8 in the morning the next day.
