This year, the Daisekkei route has been temporarily shut down due to the ice melting, starting from August 27, and it is scheduled to reopen next year. As an alternative, I opted for the alternative traverse route, starting from Tsugaike Nature Park to reach Mt. Shirouma. This path entails a longer trek when compared to the Daisekkei route.
I spent about 8 hours hiking to Mt. Shirouma and stayed at Hakuba Sanso. The next day, I hiked back for another 7 hours. Undoubtedly, the hike proved to be physically demanding. If I had the chance to choose a different approach, I would have stayed at Hakuba Oike Sanso and then trek to Mt. Shirouma the following day. Afterward, I would spend the night at Hakuba Sanso and hike back to Tsugaike Nature Park on the next day.
