GREAT TIPS! Thank you, Frank. Timely, too. My niece lives in Cabo and has invited me to visit with guitar early next year. I'll be playing solo and sitting in with a favorite local band at a club on the beach. Of course, now I have to perform 'Harvest Moon.' It's been on my set list a long time. Thanks again! 😎🎸🎤👍

That’s great glad you enjoyed. I literally just learned the song the other day for my friend (as you saw in the video). Hence my questionable performance lol

Frank, your killing me. Another great video highlighting the fact that I need to book some Caribbean gigs. You make it look effortless... also one of your commenters below mentioned that its a tax write-off too which makes it even more enticing...

Definitely start bringing your guitar with you when you travel: that’s what I always do. It’s extra work so we tend not to want to deal with it but that extra effort starts to become easier … and dude with your voice you can’t lose!

Hahaha been there. Done that. I lost my wire cutters but also had to set there for 15 mins while they went through all of the items in my gig bag.

My biggest fear traveling is that I would be forced to check the guitar at the gate. That happened once many years ago, after I was told I could bring it on the plane with me, and the little clapboard case, along with the guitar, were destroyed by the luggage handlers. The airline paid for repairs, but the guitar was never the same after that. This year, I bought a guitar at Guitar center when I arrived, and returned it the day I left for home! :P

Oh wow that is not good. My biggest fear as well but I have been lucky so far. My guit is insured but I would still be heartbroken if something happened to it. Thanks for commenting

Great tips for playing in the heat. When I know I am playing a summer outside gig, I will put my guitar in the garage for a few hours (not in the case) to "decompress" it before the gig later that night. Seems to always work :)

Hey Frank, Really enjoy your videos. I play solo acoustic gigs in Sydney, Australia. In summer it can get very hot and humid here. I've been using Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze for years. I used to go through a set of strings a gig until I started using Elixirs. Must have acidy skin or something. The Elixirs cost a little more but I buy them in bulk, which saves a bit. They last 5 times longer than uncoated strings. I also play lead guitar in a band and I use Elixirs on my electrics as well. Back to your videos. It's so good to hear from someone who's been there and is willing to share all their insights and experiences. Love your work, keep it coming.

Wow funny you should post this right now. I’ve literally been thinking about moving to coated strings and doing a few other tweaks to the setup to improve tone. Was gonna do a video about it. Thanks for sharing!!

@FrankPersico I tried the DAddario XL coated, which Taylor are pushing now. They are a bit brighter but they start to corrode after one gig. I went back to Elixir.

Looks like a great time - I would love to gig like this and travel - may need to work that out in the next year or so. Or better yet have a duo partner who can travel. Cool

Nice video Frank. I too lose sleep with thinking about whether my guitar will fit in the overhead bins. I’ve never checked any of my Taylor guitars. I recently rented an acoustic guitar from a local shop when I travelled. It cost me about $40 for a week which I didn’t think was too bad.

Glad it’s not just me lol. Thats a great idea to rent provided the guitar is up to snuff. I always toss around the idea of paying for early boarding … yesterday coming home from Mexico the flight was packed and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to fit my guitar: but I got lucky

Frank, I was busking last year in the peak of UK summer, and I broke FOUR strings in one session, even after a full set change, do you think the extreme heat had something to do with them breaking? It was probably about 85 degrees (that's hot for the UK ha ha) Usually, I'll break one string a week say on average, cheers dude **Edit** You answered my question in the vid, ha ha I posted my question at the start
@FrankPersico
@FrankPersico 4 ай бұрын
Yeah for sure I do. I never break strings. One day several years ago I was playing an outside event… very hot and sweating my you know what off. I broke a d string right at the ball. Changed it and broke g string 5 mins later. Later that evening broke high E.

@@FrankPersico Yeah, that's pretty much what happened to me, I broke 4 in like 4 hours I think, and I did I full set change after 2 hours, and broke 2 more, I was like "Wtf's going on" ha ha Cheers, at least I know now, I asked another guitar guy like yourself and he said the same as you, so I just wanted a 2nd opinion for this season, I better get prepared ha ha

Great video! What Gibson model is that? New or used? Also, what happens if you have to gate-check the guitar in that carry-case? Thank you!
@FrankPersico
@FrankPersico 4 ай бұрын
Thanks. 🙏 videos like this take a lot of work so the supportive comments mean a lot. The guitar is a Gibson songwriter with an ovangkol back and sides. I bought it used a few years ago and it’s a 2007 I believe. As for gate check. If I needed to I would kindly inform the airline that it is my right to carry on my instrument (of course check with your airline if that is the case. It is with JetBlue) now if it doesn’t fit in the overheads simply let them know that there is no way this can be placed with the other luggage and must bring kept safe with the other gate check items such as wheelchairs, strollers etc. I have gate checked guitars before and never had a problem. The reuinion blues case is more than sufficient for gate check but NOT for standard check. For that you better have a hard touring case.
