I did it in 2017, great trail, just don’t go during black fly season. Did the trail in 2 1/2 days bc I couldn’t stop due to the bugs. Great graduation present to myself…

Great video! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. My fiance and I are planning to do the Cranberry Lake 50 on our honeymoon, after we get married in October. Your video is very helpful and gave us some great ideas.

I hope you enjoyed it. I grew up in Cranberry Lake. Wanakena has some giant old growth trees just a short hike from roads. That 50 is the only thru-hiker I've ever done. I'm planning on an South bound AT in 22

Looks like a beautiful trail, especially day 2. Gonna put it the list. Once visited 5 Ponds area-it was after a wind storm and there was a lot of diwn trees.

Rather than starting at the Peavine Swamp trailhead, one can start at the boat launch, the Lost Pond Trailhead which is directly on the route. The 50 used to go to the Peavine Swamp trailhead at Route 3. When the Lost Pond Trail was created, the 50 shifted to that to cut down the road walk on Route 3

Awesome ! Never been to Cranberry Lake, love the Adirondacks. Also gotta love the ULA Ohm 2.0 , best pack I have ever used. Nice editing man ! Thanks for sharing and enjoy the holidays ! Cheers

I often find myself looking at other packs online but I just don't have a single complaint about the Ohm 2.0 and therefore do not see any value in switching. However, I did see that ULA recently changed ownership and I am hoping the new owners will begin offering the same models with upgraded materials such as cuben and Xpac as standard options.

Great!!. On my to do list. Was gonna hit this trail in October, but figured missed the peak foliage, so pushed it off until next year and we thru hiked the Loyalsock Trail in PA instead. Thanks for posting this!!!!!

It was an amazing trail, I did miss peak foliage by a couple weeks but I knew that going in to it. I haven't done Loyalsock Trail, but I just put on your video to check it out. Thanks!

Hello Denniston. I understand you had 50 plus miles, and took note of your pace.. amazing! I know you mentioned in another video your average pace was 2 to 2 1/2 mph.. ( when you were descending on mostly ice..you said 1 mph understandably.) You were flying on this one though!! The most motivating parts of your videos is your demeanor.. if there is a challenge you say “awesome!” .. when your filtered water bag broke at the beginning of a backpacking trip you explained what happened but most impressive is how you adjusted your plans and remained calm. Awesome teacher ! Thank you again!

Thanks Kenneth. Yes, as you have witnessed my pace can vary a lot trip to trip. I generally plan for that 2-2.5mph sweet spot but at Cranberry I pushed a little harder because of the relatively short days and easy terrain. I wouldn't expect to cover 20+ miles a day in mountainous terrain unless that was my priority and I was willing to forgo filming, sightseeing, and exploring as I go along. I enjoy the challenge of the hike just as much as the relaxation! Thanks again for the kind comments.

Nice video, I didnt see anything about a bear hang or canister , where did you put your food at night?? And i thought you are not supposed to cook where you sleep. Oh man backpacking is so overwhelming

Talking about submerging into nature that you are even invisible to wild creatures in the woods! Will the trail suitable for snowy winter backpacking? Thank you for sharing your adventures!

I like your perspective, I had not thought of it that way. It was the highlight of the trip no doubt. Cranberry Lake would be a great place for winter backpacking because its relatively tame and low in elevation. Would be a nice Snowshoe trip for sure.

Do you find the inner net necessary that time of the year? Just asking. I find that my netting actually retains some heat. Peace ✌️
@christiandenniston7177
@christiandenniston7177 4 жыл бұрын
No it wasn't necessary at all but it has its benefits. As you said, the inner net does provide some warmth and it creates a nice barrier between the condensation on inside of the tarp and myself. I find I stay much drier with an inner net. So most of the time I find that it is worth its weight and while the net is small it is about all the room I really need. If I planned to spend more time in the tent I would bring a larger setup.
