Nice trip. Sounds like you have been dealing with some heat too. Crazy how the nature takes over and reclaims campsites sometimes. Glad you still found an area to camp. Breakfast sounded healthy and delicious minus the almonds. I'd substitute those with brown sugar! LOL. Interesting about the reception on your Garmin. Sometimes the messages take a while to send and/or receive. Nicely done on your video. We made it back from AK now and I'm starting to get caught up on finishing your trip. Hope you are still getting out on many more adventures before the snow sets in. Have a wonderful day.

The heat has been rough here mainly because it comes with very high humidity. The humidity is what gets me. Brown sugar in the oatmeal sounds really good. I’m looking forward to some snow. Mainly because in the last two years we didn’t get any which is not in the norm. I got a pull sled and want to to do some snowy longer duration trips this year with it but I’m thinking I may have to do some north bound traveling to see significant snow.

It was real hot and humid this last summer. I was taking a supplement that made me more sensitive to heat I believe because when I stopped taking it I wasn't as sensitive to heat. Hiking in the dead heat of summer like that heat is not for the faint of heart. You and I've done it more than a few times, including through the hellscape of Chucky, sometimes it's better to throw in the towel than be miserable or end up in a potentially dangerous situation. You still logged plenty of miles and had a night in the bush. Plus you've done that trail a few times so you didn't miss out by taking an early exit. I need to hit this trail again I haven't done it since we did it together. Awesome video quality per usual and thanks for bringing us along

Thank you! That area is very beautiful. It is in the PA wilds and very remote.

That site by Three Runs Firetower is one of my favorites. Lots of animal activity throughout the night.

That is a very nice site. Usually there are lots of great sites over the years but on my trips last year and this year it seemed the sites have been disappearing mainly from overgrown. I could just be imagining it too. lol 👍

My husband and I were on the West Rim trail during this heat wave. It was brutal but still nice.

It’s always nice to be in the woods no matter what the weather. But I agree, it has been pretty brutal. 👍

Smart move calling it early Dan! It's been crazy hot this summer and there's no sense pushing it with that kind of heat index. I think we always need to ask ourselves if it's worth it or if it's putting our bodies at risk. I think you made the best choice.

Thanks Dave! The worst part is when it is hot at night while at camp and sleeping. Hard to sleep when you are sweating. Hopefully it cools down soon or even if the days are hot just a little cooler nights.

That heat & humidity sounds brutal. Especially with no wind. Nice that your wife was able to pick you up. What did you use to light up yourself while in the hammock? Looked nice and even.

The heat was definitely oppressive. It’s been really hot and humid this year. I hope it cools down soon. Ironically, i have been looking at my winter gear already and starting to make plans for the cold and snow. lol. But then when it’s winter i will be looking to warm weather. Vicious cycle. lol. I film with my phone and the light is the flash/light on my phone (iPhone 14 pro max). Then off to my left i used my lantern which is the Black Diamond Moji R+ Lantern. I love that lantern,

@@backpackingadventures4813 lol I'm the same. Picked up a Summer quilt in the Winter and now I'm looking at microspikes in peak Summer 😂 That's a nice floody warm light from the phone. I like that on my phone and the original NU25. I've been nerding out on new headlamps and been digging the 3 I picked up. I think my favorite so far is the Skilhunt H150. Has a floody high CRI 3000K emitter. The warm tint is nice on the eyes and the colors pop on camera.

It was brutal out at this time. Can't fault you at all, lol.

Definitely brutal. But the big deciding factor was the temp forecasted for the night. It was supposed to still be in the 70’s. Makes for a miserable sleep.

@@backpackingadventures4813 oh, it definitely was, lol. You need a break in the temps to find SOME relief. Any time the wind picked up, it was just blowing hot air around. Felt like being in a convection oven. D:

New subscriber here - loving the hiking videos, are you no longer low carb?
@backpackingadventures4813
@backpackingadventures4813 6 ай бұрын
Thanks and welcome! Low carb? Yes and no. I was on a three year weight loss journey and for the last half of it I was low carb/keto. Since I lost the weight/fat I wanted to I stated back on muscle building. So I increased the carbs. When I’m maintaining or building I stay around no more than 150g/day. When cutting I do about 75 or below. That’s about the lowest I go now. Any lower and I find I start to loose muscle while trying to lose weight.

Yeah, don’t blame you. I just don’t perform well in the heat. Couple that with no air, little water, makes it tough and not fun.
@backpackingadventures4813

Yeah, 105 at its hottest according to my thermometer. I can tolerate the heat while hiking. It’s when it’s really warm at night. Makes it miserable and you can’t sleep.

What is your average base weight for your pack? It looks ultra light.
@backpackingadventures4813
@backpackingadventures4813 6 ай бұрын
My base weight changes drastically from trio to trip. For the most part I have a set load out but I change the hammock, tarp, quilts, etc. it also depends on the type of trip. If it is shorter mileage trip with less hiking I’ll take more comfort items like my table or a chair. Higher mileage trips I take less. Temps also determine what I take. Colder temps means more clothes and heavier quilts. But for hot weather like this trip my base weight was between 10.5 lbs and 11lbs. Winter when it’s I. The single digits or below zero my base weight is over 20lbs.
