Thank you for reminding me of the most memorable cycle ride I have done. I live in the UK and our son moved to work in Japan. On our first visit we cycled this amazing route in one day and I have been cycling ever since. Since then he has moved to Kyoto and we can't wait to visit again and explore the beautiful areas there.

Really cool vid of kirosan, best realistic version of the climb I've seen. I was gonna skip it but now I'm inspired, even if I gotta walk the whole way. Thanks! Really fun vid!

Thank you! It was a hard climb up to the top but I'm glad I did it.

cycling the shimanami kaido is absolutely one of my top bucket list things to do. amazing scenery and there's something satisfying in going over an absolute monster of a bridge with a bicycle
@MarisAroundtheWorld5 ай бұрын
Biking over the bridges was so cool! Especially seeing them from both sides at the beginning and end. Hope you get to do the trip soon!

Used to live in that area of Japan. Cycled it 7 times. Absolutely the most stunning cycling route in japan

7 times - wow! Any favorite routes or stops?

The observation deck that overlooks the long bridge to Imabari is absolutely stunning. Especially for sunsets and night sky

Super cool, it’s not easy to cycle such a steep incline. Very impressive 🎉

Wow....spectacular food...yummy loved the salted ice creme. The push up to the observatory was rewarded with stunning views. You have a magic artistic touch with that camera....thank you for taking us along...vid editing was first tier level. Can't wait for the next adventure. Keep the food envy going (vital for foodies) that pastry on part one gave me food rage!

Thank you for joining the journey and for such kind words! The food is also my favorite part plus I highly recommend that citrus daifuku. Makes me want to go back already! Haha 😋

This brings back so many memories:,) I was also biking Shimanami Kaido solo and I've ended up pushing my bike up to the Kirosan view park and was questioning why tf am I doing that to myself. I've had a guy who was obviously a pro, pass me 3 times (as in, he biked up the mountain 3 times while i pushed it up 1 time😂) but I've done the whole route in one day, so I was already done by that point and my stomach was in a bad condition. We've even gotten an earthquake while I was mid up the mountain:,) And as I was biking at the end of November, it was getting dark early and the sun was setting when I was crossing the last bridge (was a beautiful view)...then my phone has died, it was dark and I couldn't find the place where to return the bike. Luckily ran into a British guy I met on the road and he took me there whew. Happy ending. All in all, it's a great experience but if I do it again, I would definitely opt for staying the night mid way like you did.

Haha, the trials of Kirosan! Glad we could share similar experience and enjoy the view at the top.

Nice, I walked over and camped few nights Shimanami Kaido. One particular night I gazed the lonely lighthouse all night long. 😁

Really enjoyed the videos. Hope to do the Shimanami Kaido one day if I can persuade someone to do it with me, dont think I have the self discipline to do it solo like you!

Hope you can do it too!!

Congratulations on finishing. I enjoyed the positive self talk about not dying on the 20% incline, and ice cream which you were not going to eat 😊

Thanks for joining the journey! The positive self talk was necessary to keep trucking on. 😂

Great one. Wow, that was a lot of work to finish that trip. Good job. But I like work. I could watch people doing it all day.

Thank you @paulspedaler ! It was quite a trip, especially up to the observatory, but it was so fun and worth it. I appreciate your generous support and look forward to sharing more adventures 😁!

thanks for the detailed video! do you know what time you started and finished the second day? Im staying at wakka also and was hopeful that we could get to imabari by 15:00

I started around 7:30 am and finished around 4:45 pm. This includes the 1 hour plus detour to the Observatory, and rose garden.

This has been so useful thank you! It's so hard to find in-depth info on this trip which includes bicycle rental as well. I'm planning on doing the whole of your part 1 and then getting the ferry back to Onomichi I've heard that's possible??) hopefully November next year 🚲🚲

Glad you found it helpful! I’ve written more information on my website here if you want to check it out with links and maps. www.marisaroundtheworld.com/solo-biking-the-shimanami-kaido-a-complete-guide/ There are many ferries that connect the islands so your trip sounds possible!

Hi. I am planned to cycle from fukuoka to osaka in april in 6 days via Hofu otake hiroshima kure tobishima kaido shimanami kaido himeji and kobe. Is that doable? I am afraid there is blocked path along the way. Maybe you can inform me. Thank you 🙂🙏
