To go out into the wilderness, kayaking with just a map, and camping all by yourself, in addition to building cabins... you've definitely lived before this life. This isn't your first time here. I've never done anything like this. Wish I had someone growing up that could've taken me on such trips. You'd make a great father!

I spent 2 weeks in BWCA in the early 90s. It got down to 20 degrees at night and rained for the first week. We were not prepared for that. We spent most of the time huddled in the tent keeping warm. When it quit raining and we could sit outside with a fire, the thing that I most remember is the black flies bouncing off of my forehead. Constantly. Non-stop. Forever. DEET and smoke didn't slow them down in the least. It was torture. We did manage to get a couple of hikes and some fishing in, and a spectacular Northern Lights show, but I never had any desire to go back. My dad grew up on Lake Vermillion, but I guess he didn't pass on the genes for loving the outdoors. I'll just watch you do it instead.

Something special about the lakes up there. We do Quetico off the end of the Gunflint trail. We were in for 10 days last year and ran out of coffee which was almost worse than running out of food-seriously. Going next spring so thanks for the reminder of how beautiful it is. I’m guessing the 1 mile portage keeps a lot trippers out of that route.
