Spring is definitely one of the more unique seasons for practicing your bushcraft skills that's for sure. One minute it can be perfect, then just as quickly you are dealing with wind, rain, biting cold and even snow

When you go far into the forest, when your phone is silent, it does not catch the signal, and the sleeping bag on the foam replaces your favorite bed! When your dinner is boiling in a black pot on a hot fire, and all your clothes are soaked through with smoke. You forget about all your problems, they simply do not exist, there is you and the silence of the forest! The silence from which is muffling. Your senses sharpen as you hear the wind, the rustle of grass, and leaves. The creaking of the trunks. At this moment, you feel that you are alive, you are alive now, you listen to your breath, your heart, Nothing can replace these feelings. You are cleansed of all that weighed on you yesterday. Just you and nature. And you're on your own. You're alive now, and that's all that matters. For this we go to the forest. To experience it, over and over again. Those who have experienced it will understand. Those who have not experienced it, still have everything ahead of them. Thank you for giving me this feeling. Thank you for making such content that attracts people to put on a backpack and go to wander along the forest path, your work makes people really happy. 👍My channel on You Tube is just starting to take shape. If you don't mind, please put a few likes and a couple of short comments.

Actually, just the opposite. Alcohol caused the peripheral blood vessels to dilate, resulting in loss of body heat. If you enjoy a couple of drinks or beers when camping, certainly enjoy them. Just don’t over do and don’t expect them to keep you warm, because they won’t.

Weird thing about camping next to water. It drowns out the forest sounds, which actually makes you feel more secure. It's actually creepier camping up on the ridges, away from the water, because you hear every twig snapping and every animal cry. Kind of ironic.

About 30 years ago I was fishing Crazy Woman Creek in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. I could see the fish and I placed the bait right on their nose but no bites. After a good bit a guy in his 70's came close and took a worm out of a can and baited it. He then crouched behind a bush and cought a trout on the firstcast! He said "if you can see them; they can see you.". I filled my creel in 20 minutes.

Cool little nest you have there! Now, about ticks, they will get on your shoes and immediately crawl in an upward direction. You are still very vulnerable by not tucking pant legs into sock tops. I spend tons of time outdoors and I do get ticks on me but I buy time by having my bottom half totally sealed up...by the time I find them, they have gotten up above my waist. Actually it's best not to sleep in the outer wear you spent the day in...I realize that's difficult when you're living out of a backpack.
@BrooksandBirches
@BrooksandBirches 4 жыл бұрын
I agree Lucy! I actually bring a pair of lightweight thermals (top and bottom) and another pair of socks to sleep in so I make sure to give myself a once over when I get changed before I go to sleep! It can be hard obviously to check my back but I do what I can lol

I remember back when I was a kid, we used to watch mosquitoes bite and pull the skin real hard on both sides of the skeeters stinger - they couldn't pull the stinger out and their blood tanks would burst..... now, shit - between ticks spreading lyme disease and skeeters spreading all kinds of stuff, I hate the bugs!!! HAMMOCKS - I've got my choices narrowed down to two. Haven Tent or Amok Hammock. Both allow you to sleep in a flat position instead of the confining banana position of most other hammocks. You aren't limited to sleeping on just your back. You can sleep on your back, side, or stomach with either hammock. Check out either of their KZbin videos. Really enjoy all your videos!

Depending on your rain fly's configuration, and your level of ingenuity, you can use it as the detached tarp in the setup, or as a separate rain and wind shelter. I would imagine. Also, using a separate tarp AND your regular rain-fly could make you a lot warmer in high winds, by reducing the wind-resistant performance of your setup. You can get really weird about it and pile up forest litter between tent and tarp and give yourself a nice, insulated shelter that's right up there with the fanciest double-walled expedition tents. I wouldn't have thought that ticks would be active, seeing the snow flurries. But come to find out that deer ticks are active, year-round.

My experience with Adirondack trout streams is that the trout start to bite around Memorial Day, about the same time the black flies do. My favorite time to fish was September when the fish are spread out in the river and hungry. Fishing in summer, you fight the deer flies and fish are in deep holes where the water is cooler. Where little springs come into the river are often productive. You appear to be in the Eastern Adirondacks. In the western Adirondacks, the Independence River in the Independence River Wild Forest is a good trout river in the upper reaches. If you take the 3 mile hike into Gleasmans Falls, which is just above Second Creek on the river, the trout can not get past the falls and the lowest pool and for a mile downstream hold trout. Very scenic and you will find KZbin videos. Trail access is off Canal Rd near Brooklyn Square or Sperryville to Beaches Millpond in the town of Watson, Lewis Co.. Near Chases Lake. Bailey Rd from Sperryville is access to lower river. Crystal Dale and Number Four are USGS maps.

Thanks for the tips buddy! Yeah my experience of the bite is pretty much identical to yours, they really switch on for a couple of weeks in May and then they disappear down deep and you don't see them again till later in the year

Hello my outdoors friend, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing this fine video. Your videos are always great motivators for me. For the last four weeks we've been on 'lockdown', house arrest or whatever you wish to call it. I've been sorting camping for a trek into the Northern Sierras. You should work on a wilderness cook book, I know it woul be a bestseller. All the best of good health to you and your family. 🤗

Thanks Ronald! That's too bad you guys are on lockdown right now, I have a friend in Lake Tahoe so he's in the same boat and I know it must be hard but you're doing the right thing by looking forward to your next adventure! All the best mate, take care!

Reminds me of a place in the Poconos, out past my Grandparents. Woods floor covered in deep pine needles, very comfy sleeping. My cousins and I built a fire ring and the trees were spaced just right for a tarp or hammock, or both. I gotta head up there soon just to kick back in the woods.

If could cut a broom-handled, in length and diameter, branch with a couple of starter-branches at the business end. Cut those "3" branches about 12 inches in length from the crook where they meet up. Then, "Kick the tires & Light the fires!", I've made a rake.

We are enjoying your videos and it is making us eager to get out when we are able. One little trick I feel is useful is to keep a low profile while fishing small streams instead of being silhouetted against the sky. Stealth is your best fishing buddy. Cheers
