Managed to get out into the woods for a long over due overnight trip on the last day of winter and it had a little bit of everything for me weather wise! From blue skies to wind and then even some snow!

I carry a 12x16 foot vinyl tarp in my vehicles,along with paracord ,candles,beef jerky and an axe. If I’m stranded,those items can keep you alive,be it in the vehicle or build a shelter.

💜Love all your vids ! ... I was born and raised in the woods here in the mountains of Virginia . I didn't have fancy cookware or fancy fire starters . I'd poke holes in aluminum pie pans to cook on and also used them as plates ... and they're lightweight . Matches and lighters are the way to go for a fast fire . Scrap paper from home starts a fire quick and good dry leaves work too 😏. I always put alot of rocks around my fires . You'd be surprised what you can do with hot rocks ... "clean heat" for example . I know lots of tricks for being out in the woods . I'm also learning a lot from you ! 💜

Hey man, I just came across your videos the other day. Very good job! I am enjoying them! If I can make a recommendation on the firewood splitting with those dense logs (the ones that had the split down the middle to begin with), when they are fairly hard and dense, if you catch the front edge of them with the axe when you're first hitting them flat, you're more likely to bury the blade into them in the same way as you did when you turned them upright. As well, if you do need to set them up on end, to save your fingers you can use another piece to lightly baton the axe blade into the wood to get it going. I'm not a huge fan of doing that the whole way through but to get the blade stuck in the wood it's a good trick! Keep on doing more videos and stay healthy!

Hey Rob, when you're making a fire deflector, would a 'V' shape one (i.e. adding another side) give more benefit in keeping warm or is it not worth the extra effort? BTW, what's your favourite whisky/whiskey?

Funny. On Hill 950 We slept in our sandbag bunker when off patrol; I made a bed in empty ammo crates, usually wet, and cold until body heat warmed up things; then kinda like sleeping in a warm bath. Fun to watch the dude camping; then I’ll go up to my nice comfortable bed. No more camping for me; I’m over that.

Wow.. first I love that tarp pitch... during your camera chat i knew what you meant about the disconnection ,, but current world events weighing heavy in your mind .. I have cancelled three overnighters that I had planned out .. mostly due to just feel more comfortable being at home after dark due to questionable near by neighborhoods where I live . Still some beautiful country up there .. I was amazed as I drove thru a section of your area .. due to the stereotype where I’m from you think of your area as the metropolis and that’s all .. the woods here are heavy grown with thick underbrush .. most times you can’t see 6 foot ahead ,, we jokingly refer to it as welcome to the jungle .. I see drone footage of areas like yours and would love to wander there for days on end .. I hope you and your family weathers these times safely.. looking forward to the next video. Keep the fate and remember this too shall pass!

Thanks Ken! Yeah the disconnect is usually one of the best parts but with so much news developing every day you really want to know what's happening and be in touch with family members. Yeah that's one of the reasons I never mentioned to people where I live because I didn't want people just assuming I was in the city when really we have some big country up here! The best time of year for walking off trail is probably right now, once we hit the middle of may we get that jungle effect too but I bet it's probably much worse where you are

I live in New York county of Queens. Yeah scary here now hospitals are overwhelmed. Pretty could hunker down with enough food for 3mos. We are in senior years, what is going on is real dangerous for us. You video pulls us away from scary news but real. In any way we love your videos.
