I have been unemployed for a few months now and was really looking forward to buying all of my gear so me and my dog could go out in the lakes for a night wild camping. Because of your content my folks stumped up the cash so I could buy my Berghaus tent and backpack for Christmas. I need a few more things to get me out there like a sleeping bag etc but I can look over my shoulder now and see my gear knowing that eventually I will be ready to go. That means a lot for me because being out of work is soul crushing, and this is my escape. Merry Christmas to you my friend, a massive inspiration to me.

Hi Nick, I was in your situation for several years, so I can put myself in your position. I was able to buy a lot of good stuff very cheaply on eBay, especially ski clothes that are ideal for winter hikes. There are an unbelievable number of people who have to have completely new things to ski for 1 week every year - and the "old" things (used carefully for 1-2 weeks) are sold off cheaply. Or wives tidy up their husband's closets: that's how I got an absolutely great outdoor jacket: 100% waterproof, really breathable, great cut, removable inner jacket and the large pockets have space for camera, smartphone, snacks, even 0,33 l cans and and and ... The woman wanted to make her husband happy with the jacket ... once dressed, it has been hanging in the closet ever since. I got it for € 12 instead of € 300. Often you can also be lucky with tents, sleeping bags and backpacks. Here, too, there are a lot of people who always have to have the latest and the "old" things are sold cheaply. Or tents ar getting too small because people starting families. For this reason I got a Hilleberg Staika for a quarter of the price. It war used but except for a few blemishes that are inevitable in use it was in fine condition and served me for 15 years. However, you have to be patient and plan well in advance for this type of shopping, because things are not always available exactly when you want them.

@@SunTours-Adventures Thank you Ralf and others that have commented, I didn't expect any response at all from my comment. I love this guy Haze, I just stumbled upon this channel when I felt I needed something truly for myself. Just to go out for a night away from home to calm your mind felt like a godsend to me. I was with someone for almost two years that ended 3 months ago, and she gave me the privelage of letting me get to know her two daughters of 9 and 11. I don't have kids of my own but the break up from that time has hit me like a ton of bricks over time, and I miss everything about them. I just wanted Haze to know that because of his content I got a Christmas present from someone out of the blue, and I am eternally grateful. Move on, move forward and forge your own path.

@@Nickydo111 If you don't have a (winter) sleeping bag yet, go on day trips - the main thing is to get out! I'm on tour with my dog too, that's the best thing ever. This gives you the chance to grow together into a great team. And a good dog is the best soul comforter ever! Even if it's difficult: See your unemployment as a momentary opportunity and great freedom! You may lack the money everywhere, but you have enough time to think of inexpensive alternatives for great outdoor activities. Certainly you have cheap train tickets to get somewhere or someone will give you a lift. And once you're outside, life is just as expensive or cheap as it is on the couch at home. In Hazy's videos I see with astonishment that he lives entirely on expensive expedition food. Bread, salami and cheese are inexpensive and not heavy to carry and everything for a warm meal is inexpensive and easy to make with simple ingredients. For a weekend or a week, there is also not so much weight accumulated, especially if you use every shopping opportunity on the way. So I wish you the best ever start into a new year!

Mate, truer words have never been said about Christmas. Too much pressure to spend it with family, even when family doesn’t mean people you want to be around. This year and last, I forewent the whole big family affair and just spent it with the wife and dog, and they have been by far the most enjoyable xmases.

From what I recall, that mural of the man with a robin is supposed to be a modern interpretation of St Mungo, who is the patron saint of Glasgow.
