Decades ago I used to go camping with a guy that was a maestro with the Dutch oven. With a canoe of course you can bring nearly anything so we’d fix elaborate pot roasts with all the trimmings, cooked in wine…three of us but we ate like pigs when we were young. We even made pot brownies once! It was the 1970’s, so it was ok. 😅

It doesn't get old to see you light a fire. May you light as many campfires as there are hairs on a fox's tail...I borrowed that foxtail comment from a former employer...thanks for the relaxing video.

Awesome! I have been Dutch Oven cooking for 2 years now. Normally on a weekly basis. What I do is effectively poach the meat in beer 🍺.Pork, lamb, beef , chicken - doesn’t matter. No chance of burning and the results are awesome. Very tender. Also no chance of over cooking or burning! We like beer 🍺 in New Zealand! Cheap beer is fine. Thanks for sharing Dave

Hey Alexis, great video as always. Dutch oven campfire cooking is the best, when we go camping, we always break out the Dutch oven and make something in it. We bury it and put hot coals on top of it and let it call cook all day. Red wine chicken with onions and potatoes is the best.

the Dutchoven is a great thing. We use it a little differently. We dig a hole and light a fire in it until it's full of embers. Then we just put the pot in there and shovel embers on top of the lid. Pot roast, stew or even bake bread, everything always works out well in the oven.

I love using my Dutch oven for making certain things. I make a cheeseburger soup/stew that is great. So many ingredients and there is a certain order everything goes in once its cut but it's all made in the same pot which is great for less cleanup. One thing I haven't tryed is using it as an oven and making bread in it. Putting it in coals with coals on the lid also.

... Yeah ,, an overnighter with Alexis ... .. Got to start with a big THANK YOU ,, for showing the clearing of the forest floor to build your fire ring ,,So many video's don't stress enough on fire safety .. and well this is another year that thousands of acres of forest's are forever gone .. .. Agree Dutch Ovens are a great piece of camp gear to make almost anything ..whether over a campfire or buried in the ground and coals above and below .... good to see you found a backpackers ultralite model ...lol.... Be sure to season it well in oven at home inside and out ..lid too ...... and when cleaning NEVER ,, NEVER USE SOAP OF ANY KIND .. will penetrate pores and get into food .... meals looked great and I'm sure future use will be awesome meals as well ... they are fun to try everything ... .. Beautiful location for an outing ,,only missing was Grizz the Wonderdog of the North and your awesome canoe ... an evening paddle would have been awesome ... ..Look forward to future video's and time on the water with Brandon ... Stay Safe ..

You probably know this but you can put the lid upside down on the coals and use it like a skillet. Lodge even makes a trivet to hold the lid. We do bacon and pancakes that way.
@Crittermoto2 жыл бұрын
Great looking stew! Love love love cooking on cast iron 👍🏻 and creative cooking while wild camping is the best! Around these parts however, I tend to use boil in a bag this time of year, late fall, due to the amount of extra hungry bears we have. A cast iron Dutch oven is definitely needed to be added to my kit. I have that exact same book and haven’t learnt a bunch for the exact same reason 😂 Cheers from the West Coast 🇨🇦❤
