The main thing with sleeping is not sleeping on the ground. Get a sleeping pad. They keep you off the ground and make you more comfortable.

The bugs are brutal. Reminded me of all the camping/fishing trips we did in Flamingo as a kid. We’d get coated in bug spray and my Dad would hit the campsite with bug fogger a few times just so we could cook dinner in peace. It was a pain but we had so much fun it was worth it. The more open camp sites where the trees are cleared out aren’t as nice looking but have less bugs. To save the floor of your tent get a tarp the size of your tent floor and put it down first then set your tent up on it. Tuck the edges of the tarp that stick out so if it rains the water doesn’t collect and puddle under your tent. The tarp will take all the abuse from rocks, sticks and stuff instead of your tent floor.

If you get a twig stove, they burn charcoal, twigs, wood pellets, or alcohol. You could have used just about everything around you as fuel to cook on if you forgot the charcoal. The little round ones are gasififers and burn extremely clean, no smoke. A folding grill from walmart camping dept and you can cook the world. Your cart and a bungee and you can use your bike to tow your kayak. all told looks like a fun weekend.

Get a charcoal chimney to get your coals ready, when they are white dump the coals in the grill to cook. Your coals just weren’t hot enough to cook quicker. That campground looks awesome.

We call the first camping trip "glamping" . Kind of glamour camping. I like going up in the mountains and going where no one goes. Forest service calls it distributive camping, out side of camp grounds. Kind of with the bears lol.

You need to use a Thermacell, it will help. Also use mint mouth wash. That keeps them away from your face. The mouth wash only last about 45 minutes.

Try citronella oil lantern for no seeums come sundown. It may help.

Bro, get some permethrin concentrate. Fill a 5 gallon bucket and pour some in. Soak all your clothes that you are going to wear on your camping trip. Take a sprayer too and spray your tent. When i camp in the Everglades i never have to deal with bugs. That keeps them away.
