When this guy says he's going to make some dinner I assumed he was going to pull out a freeze-dried ration and boil some water on his gas cylinder stove. You know, quick and easy. But no, he starts chopping fresh veggies and browning 1/2 pound of beef. But that's not all, he whacks out a Trangia alcohol burner in those gale-force winds, and then proceeds to lit it with a match, just to make himself a proper meal. That's my new definition of dedication. Never again will I complain about my camp food.

@@michaelc3977 😂 I only have the one Ad before the video starts because KZbin makes me. I dont care to make money off anyone who watches. This is just a hobby of mine and my family is the most important thing. That’s why I usually only make one video a month, I don’t include affiliated links, I don’t ask anyone to buy me a coffee 😂, and I don’t have any of those super chats or whatever turned on. I do this because I love it. I drive an old car and I probably will until the wheels fall off, I still wear clothing I’ve had for 15 years, I don’t waste money on nonsense other than travel with my family and camping gear 😅 (because I have an addiction to gear) and it’s what I love to do. That Hultafors is a great idea! I hope they'll ship to US soon. I'm also loving how spacious the Nammatj is. But in a windy-pouring rain situation, I would still opt for the Hilleberg geodesic ones (That wind is scary!!!). Thank you for another great video!
@GoingSoloOutdoors
@GoingSoloOutdoors 5 күн бұрын
I got my Hultafors on Amazon in the US 👍. Because of the two pole design, the Nammatj does flap a bit more than one of Hillebergs smaller geodesic tents like the Soulo. However, in these conditions, I really enjoy having the extra space. I have the Soulo’s big brother the Allak 2, but it doesn’t handle the wind as well as the Nammatj. I’ve had the Nammatj out in crazy winds enough that I have come to trust it. The flapping is just part of the design but it’s rock solid as long as you get it properly guyed out. Which I didn’t have the chance to do until later in the evening 😅. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice weekend.

@@GoingSoloOutdoors I've compared your Nammatj & Soulo camping under extreme conditions, I find Nammatj has less clanky noise in the inner tent and the ventilation is really excellent. But you were also right about the Nammatj having a single vestibule, it'll be a bit troublesome if 2 people are using it. Is it a good idea to put the backpacks at the foot end (lying sideways) if 2 people are using a 6 ft. sleeping bag & mat under extreme conditions? Otherwise a GT would be a better option. Thank you so much!

Not weird at all! It triggers a part of us that we've had for thousands of years. One that despite the relatively short time we've lived with the comforts of today, will be there for many years to come. The need for food, water and shelter is obviously essential for life. When we see a warm, dry and comfortable shelter in severe weather, it's almost impossible not to get a cozy feeling. It's primal and practically involuntary, and I'm completely fine with my caveman instinct showing itself in these situations! 😂

I went camping in September in similar weather conditions however I was in a 4 man tent with a high profile, very bad idea! Even though I was in the relative comfort and safety of a campsite by 5am when the front pole had blown in so hard and snapped I was emotionally broken. Had to spend about 3 hours stood holding the tent up against the storm so it didn't blow completely in. There were parts of this video that actually triggered some kind of mild PTSD I think but I stuck with it and watched right the way through. It was inspiring and unexpectedly cathartic to see you deal with such a rough night with such a stoic demeanor, thanks for the great video!

It’s a fantastic tent! I may have made a typo in the video if I said it was the guy tensioners. It wasn’t the guy tensioners it was the fly tensioners at the base of the vestibule that were slipping. This has never happed to me before but it definitely wasn’t ideal. I was able to stop the slipping with a single overhand knot in the ribbon material but it was a bit annoying. It may have been because it was so saturated by the rain. Not sure. Really appreciate the comment Chris. ATB

Glad you enjoyed it! When I was initially setting up the tent, many of this pegs were hard to get into the ground because it was very rocky. My priority at that time was to just get the tent up and secure enough pegs that I would have time to get changed into some dry warm clothing. I knew I would have to go back out at some point to readjust and better anchor a few of the pegs with rocks. It was nice I was able to relax and make myself a nice meal in the meantime before the winds picked up even more. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice week.

The Lake District can be as unrelenting as beautiful. I’m lucky to live 50 miles away from it. Thanks for the film.
