The Year prior, the battle of Tora Bora was where Delta Forces A Squadron had Bin Laden dead to rights, and a bogus “cease fire” deal took place between the Afghan Northern Alliance and Bin Ladens crippled force. This BS deal bought Bin Laded time to escape through the back passages into Pakistan and evade Americas Hunters for 11 years.. Going back to Gul Ahmed, (the man that John was tasked to locate) was the last known human that aided Bin Ladens escape from Tora Bora and into Pakistan.. Delta Force wanted to capture him to paint the picture of how, when and (where) Bin Laden was. Gul Ahmed is said to be the 1st HVT captured in the GWOT, and Johns singleton mission to this day is said to be the longest one man recce ever conducted in history.

It’s the 1st and most accurate account of the battle of Tora Bora 2001 to date. That other bit you’re asking about is just out of Mark Bowdens classic “Black Hawk Down”.. Delta operator Master Sergent John “Mace” Macejunas is the one your referring to. Old books man. There are some gems out there.
