Solo Hike Gone Wrong - Climbing The Cheviot & Hedgehope Hill

I turned 40 at the beginning of December 2021 and wanted to make and inspire change. I love the outdoors and I love exploring new places so I set myself a challenge for my 40th year........
I decided I would reach 40 summits of 40 mountains at the age of 40!
So over the next year I'll be doing 40@40 💪
This is the hike that went wrong! The ground was boggy and the weather was awful but somehow I managed to summit mountains 3 & 4 out of 40.
The Cheviot - 815m
Hedgehope Hill - 714m
Only 36 to go...... I have a lot planned this year and will be documenting as much of it as possible. I'd love for you to join me on my adventures and hope to inspire others to get outdoors.
If you would like to support my channel and buy me a coffee it would be greatly appreciated 😊
Thank you to everyone for the likes, subs and encouraging comments. You're continued support is overwhelming and heartwarming ❤️

Great video You are still here and posting, so the right decisions were made. Comb fell is a bog all year round so I can imagine how bad it was,

Every trip is a lesson and every lesson increases knowledge. That knowledge increases your understanding of (and how you tackle) each new environment you find yourself in. There is always knowledge to be accrued from every trip out and every subsequent trip becomes a little easier as you gear up to meet the relevant conditions. A massive part of serious wild camping is learning what your limitations are, respecting the environment you find yourself in and improving your gear to meet the vast majority of situations that you will encounter. It's all a learning curve at the end of the day and you can only learn from your previous mistakes when out on the hills and trails. I'm sure you learnt a fair bit from your recent experience in the Cheviots and that will stand you in good stead going forward. Good luck on your future travels and stay safe out there. :)

It's certainly but me off boggy places.... It was an absolute nightmare. I guess I was just worried about getting stuck in the mud and no one there to help me out 😂 I'm sure my confidence will grow over time though. Was hoping to head out again tomorrow but the winds look like they might be a bit forceful for me and too risky to go on my own 🤷‍♀️

Even when I came through that area last September, the weather was wet, cold, windy, and miserable. The stone paths, when there, were great but those bogs made it tough going. Good on you for giving it a go, and I am sure you have learned a lot from this one. If you continue going out alone consider a personal locator beacon if you don't have one. Gives you an extra sense of security when things get tough.

When hiking alone i sometimes find that the battle is more mental than physical. When the weather gets bad it can get pretty intense up there and scary. Once your mind starts hitting a wall and thinking the scale and effort is to great it can quickly diminish your energy. Those conditions you experienced were extremely tough, glad you were ok.

Looks like you found comb fell ,got to be the most boggy hill in the cheviots, only fell I know where there's crash barriers used to get over the peat bogs😁 You made the right call ,calling MR because even though it's a beautiful place up the cheviots ,it can be a very quiet place ,you don't know when the next person may pass by.
