At the start in the car driving shots… the thing behind your right shoulder is called a ‘seatbelt’…. Particularly useful when your driving is being distracted by making a movie! 😀

All I remember from it is a lot of false summits and bogs waist deep.

That's a tough hike up Drosgl and the peaks beyond, when there's no views and it's tough going I think sometimes it's normal to have a period where it's not fun, but I love it when it clears a little and you start seeing things like the sea, it always lifts my spirits, this area is where I live, have you camped high up yet? That area is actually excellent for a higher camping pitch, if you look at the map you'll notice the Carneddau is a crucifix shape so depending which way the wind is blowing you can always get out of it if you drop down a few 100 feet in the right direction.

Good video, I'm an experienced wild camper and my main advice to anyone new is learn to be an extremely proficient navigator, buy a book or two on the subject and start learning all the basics then practice every time you go out, have a gps hiking watch which is a reliable source of accurate grid references, and always carry a paper map and compass, the charging cable for your watch and a powerbank, not only will it become impossible to get lost but the better you are at navigating the better you become at spotting good pitches just from maps, plus you begin to realise the wilder the location the better the pitch, and going off-piste away from footpaths is much more comfortable when you're confident in your ability to navigate.

Dartmoor has military live firing ranges so map of the ranges and how to get the firing times is essential. Would have been great if you could have mentioned website to find out about the wild camp code and areas where camping is/is not allowed. www.dartmoor.gov.uk/living-and-working/access-and-land-management/military-on-dartmoor www.dartmoor.gov.uk/enjoy-dartmoor/outdoor-activities/camping www.dartmoor.gov.uk/about-us/about-us-maps/camping-map

HI JEM YET ANOTHER GOOD VIDEO. I ALWAYS USE A GERMAN FOLDING MAT UNDER MY SELF INFLATING MAT FOR TWO REASONS 1 IT PROTECTS IT TO SOME DEGREE FROM BEING PUNCTURED HAVING SAID THAT I ALWAYS CHECK BEFORE PUTTING A GROUNDSHEET DOWN AND SECOND IT WILL STOP THE COLD FROM COMING UP FROM THE GROUND. REFERENCE YOUT TARP THE RIDGE LINE WAS TOO SLACK. I DONT USE MESS TINS I HATE DIRTY PANS. I ALWAYS USE BOIL IN THE BAG WHICH TAKES ABOUT TEN MINUTES THEN THE BOILED WATER CAN BE USED FOR A HOT DRINK. NO MESSY TINS NO WASHING UP SO SIMPLE.. I USE A MOSQUITO TENT WHEN CAMPING UNDER A TARP WHEN INSECTS ARE ABOUT. IT WEIGHS 1.2 KILO. MAKES FOR A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP WITH NO INTERUPTIONS. COST ME ABOUT £45 WELL WORTH IT. HOPE THIS HELPS. STEVE.

HI JEM SOMETIMES IN LIFE WE SET GOALS FOR OURSELVES. SOME WE ACHIEVE SOME WE DONT. IT IS NOT A QUESTION OF FAILURE. AT ANYTIME WE CAN FEEL DOWN FOR NO REASON. IT WOULD BE HARD TO EXPLAIN WHY. LOSING YOU MUM WILL HAVE A MUCH BIGGER AFFECT ON YOU THAN YOU CAN EVER IMAGINE. FROM THE FEW VIDEOS I HAVE SEEN ON YOUR ADVENTURES YOU ARE STRONG ON THE OUTSIDE AND WITHIN. ONE DAY YOU CAN PUT ON A PAIR OF WALKING BOOTS YOU HAVE WALKED MILES IN WITH NO PROBLEM THEN ONE DAY YOU HAVE A BLISTER WHY NO ONE KNOWS IT JUST HAPPENS. SODS LAW. CARRY ON DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING JEM. I AM 68 THIS JULY 2023. LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT. ENJOY EVERY MINUTE AS BEST YOU CAN BECAUSE IT IS SO SHORT. ENJOY THE SUNRISE THE SUNSET, THE SMELL OF THE GRASS. THE WIND IN YOUR HAIR, THE RAIN ON YOUR FACE. ENJOY THE FACT YOU ARE ALIVE. GOOD LUCK STAY STRONG. STEVE.

SO GOOD TO SEE SOMEONE BEING HONEST ABOUT HOW THEY FEEL ESPECIALLY ON CAMERA. FEELING DOWN AND CRYING FOR NO OBVIOUS REASON. MAY BE DUE TO YOUR DIET OR JUST THAT DAY IT ALL GOT TOO MUCH FOR YOU. WHAT MATTERS IS THAT IS WHAT MAKES YOU YOU. SOME PEOPLE WOULD HAVE STAYED IN THEIR CAR BUT YOU DIDNT WHICH GOES TO SHOW YOU HAVE DRIVE AND DETERMINATION AND A WILLINGNESS TO OVERCOME. DONT BE AFRAIAD TO SHOW YOUR EMOTIONS IT WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER. WINNERS DONT GIVE UP.

DURING YOUR PERIOD OF WALKING DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. ON A WINDY DAY WHEN YOU ARE SWEATING YOU WONT REALISE HOW MUCH BODY FLUID YOU ARE LOSING THROUGH EVAPORATION. IF YOU ARE ONE PERCENT DEHYDRATED YOUR MUSCLES WILL NOT WORK EFFICIENTLY AND YOU WILL GET TIRED.

WALKING BOOTS. ALWAYS BUY GOOD LEATHER BOOTS WHICH GIVE ANKLE SUPPORT ESPECIALLY WHEN WALKING IN THE MOUNTAINS. TREAT WITH NEATS FOOT OIL ONCE A YEAR TO STOP THE LEATHER CRACKING, WAX ONLY TWO OR THREE TIMES A YEAR USING PLENTY THEN USE A HAIRDRYER TO MELT THE WAX SO IT GOES INTO ALL THE STITCHING. CLEAN WITH WATER AND A BRUSH WHEN REQUIRED. POLISH WHEN NECESSARY.

HI JEM. JUST A FEW POINTERS. USE BOIL IN THE BAG MEALS THEN USE REMAINING BOILED WATER FOR A HOTDRINK OR SOMETHING LIKE POT NOODLES WHERE YOU JUST ADD BOILING WATER. ALL YOUR POTS STAY CLEAN ALOT EASIER. USE AN ELECTRIC PUMP FOR YOU SELF INFLATING MAT. WHEREVER YOU CAN MAKE LIFE EASIER FOR YOURSELF DO IT. HOPE THIS HELPS. STEVE.

DEAR JEMS I HAVE BEEN BACKPACKING AND CAMPING FOR ABOUT 35 YEARS. I AM STILL AMAZED THAT I AM STILL LEARNING. NEW PRODUCTS ETC. I WOULD SUGGEST YOU MAKE A LIST OF EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR WINTER CAMPING, SUMMER CAMPING AND BACKPACKING BECAUSE THEY WILL ALL DIFFER TO SOME DEGREE. ONCE COMPLETE LAMINATE THEM THEN NEXT TIME YOU GO OFF ON AN ADVENTURE TICK OFF EACH ITEM AS YOU PACK THEM. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK STAY SAFE. STEVE.

Try this when it comes to Welsh Ll = "tl" on the side of the tongue F = "v" Y on it's own = "ee" NOT "ah" Y after H (as in Rhyl) is "i" Y in a word is "u" (as in Sygun) U is "i" (so using the above, Sygun is pronounced "Sugin") Ff = "f" W = "oo" except when W is at the start OE = "oy" Ergo pronunciation is "tleen ee van vaoor"

I agree that getting out into nature is brilliant for physical and mental health, I am use to day hiking the mountains, however, I did my first wild camp last weekend in some awful conditions, worrying about that tied with my anxiety really did test my resilience, but I felt so alive when I saw the first glimmer of daylight. I posted the video on my channel, I spoke about how I felt throughout the night in the hope it helps others.

You're at Blackator copse, yeah don't worry about it. Like you said for other National Parks except Scotland, they label Wildcamping as 'illegal' but in practice as long as you clear up before you go - everyone camps those places anyway, they just leave if a farmer or landowner approaches them and says they should leave. Dartmoor was lucky to have 'legal 'spots, with that old wildcampeing map, but very recently because of a court case they made Dartmoor Wildcamping basically illegal everywhere, and it wont stop the Public from doing it in the same way as they do in Wales/Lake/Peak district. Just do it and be flexible! The Gov illegalises tons of normal things like jokes on the internet that 'may offend' these days, so ignore them. They Locked us down anyway, they suck. ^_^

You are not entirely correct. Those woods are one of only two areas on Dartmoor that have them, they are protected for a reason and you definitely can't camp there or damage the ground in any significant way. It's been like this for many years and everyone who walks and camps on Dartmoor should know. It's extremely easy to find out where to camp on Dartmoor through the interactive map.

It's a shame it was such a foggy day, can't see any of the views! But you Bagged 4-5 peaks from what I can see! The one with the "Big boulders coming out the earth" is Blackator :) You would've also done Fordsland's Ledge and Longstone Hill too, and you would've passed close to Southdown Spur at the damn/reservoir, and passed 'Hampster Tor' between High Willhays and Yes Tor, good job!
