I bought the 23mm f1.4 and really am impressed with the lens. I bought a 12mm Samyang just before this new 13mm 1.4 cam out. I have decided to buy the Viltrox too. I probably will keep the Samyang AF because I got it for a great price. Never hurts to have a spare ... Viltrox is becoming a serious contender in the lens market. Cheers.

I can’t compare the Samyang unfortunately but this 13mm viltrox is a great wide prime for fuji. Hope you love it as much as I do.

Great review! Would you recommend the Samyang 12 mm f2 over this? They are similarly priced where I am based, and my initial instincts say that the Viltrox is more versatile, while Samyang aces the astrophotography part, but is not so useful for other aspects.

I haven’t had the chance to try the samyang but I’d say the viltroxs wins in image quality.

Hi Sam, Nice video. I just got this lens and I am trying it out. I too have the 10-24. I find 13mm great for Astro and indoor events, but do you think it can completely replace your 10-24. I having a hard time to decide If I want to keep it.

Hi Akshay, I have actually found it replaces the 10-24mm in my real estate work which is great but not for my landscape and seascape photography so I am keeping both. It would be a tough decision to drop one or the other out of my kit.

@@Samwalklate Thanks for your take, I think that is pretty much similar to what feel, that this definitely doesn't replace 10-24 for landscapes. I am just not used to the 20mm focal lengths. Used this viltrox for a couple of low-lit events and it did wonders. Minimizes use of artificial lighting. I think this is an addition to my kit, not a replacement.

Gotta admit I'm a bit jealous you can get a dark sky. I got my lens about 3 weeks ago just at the extreme tail end of Aurora season. Now I have to wait till September to try it out. This lens seems to act like the Fujifilm 16mm 1.4. Which with the 67mm filter thread (Nisi Natural Night) really sold me on the 13mm. But the 16mm has to be at f2.0 to really clear up the aberrations. I can't test mine yet. But would like know if it performs well at f1.8? Just to be at the head of the curve for when I am able to shoot the Aurora. Great video!

Great video, appreciate the insight. How are you finding the focus to infinity on this lens? I own the 12mm 2.0 Rokinon and find that dialing in the focus for astro shots is inconsistent, especially in the dark. There are times when I think I have focus on point, but come home with a sd card full of slightly out of focus milky way shots.

I find it pretty consistent but it still takes me multiple tries to get it spot on. Hope that helps.

Hi Sam. Myself and a fellow photographer are having issues about our 13mm lenses. Settings Iso 3200 f2. Ss 15sec. I am getting com around the edges. Would you. Mind sharing your raw images to compare lenses?

Hey. Try DXO Pure Raw. That raw noise will be gone. And you still have raw but DNG. And turn off sharpening if you do not like.

@@Samwalklate lol it's called a DOF adapter, it attaches to a cage which you attach your phone into. Beastgrip makes some of the best in the market. Folks that do mobile videography use them 😎👍

I’m thinking between Fuji 10-24 and Viltrox 13mm, I know both have some drawbacks, but is the bokeh really worth it ?

I own both of these lenses and it’s hard to pick a favourite. Bokeh for me isn’t the biggest draw. The stabilisation in the fuji is awesome for shooting handheld and the build quality and low aperture of the Viltrox is great!
