Excellent mate! I'm sure you'll enjoy the CW, it's an awesome trail with a good amount of variation and some cracking views. Give me a wave when you pass Scarborough!

Dan from Selby here. The Estate at Helmsley is Duncolm Park, which includes the Castle & Rievaulx terrace. The big house is just up the hill from the Castle. The House was built when the Castle became too old style, in the 18th century. Note the wide street in places like Cold Kirkby, this is because there is a great drove road for bring cattle to market, from as far away as Scotland. Sutton Bank view has been called the best view in England. The White Horse can be seen on a good day, from York Minster.

Hey Dan, thanks for adding some info! I recall walking part of the old drove road, it's a great feeling to walk in the footsteps of so many other people that have travelled the same paths hundreds of years before.

I’m glad you regretted the flapjack! When you walked away saying“I’ve just had a biscuit” I actually said “why didn’t you buy one and save it for later” 😂

I live in South Yorkshire and on a clear day you can see Sutton Bank from the hills north west of Sheffield.

I enjoyed this and you touched on something I ask myself every year, that is why do it again. I first did it when I was 14 with my dad and I’ve done it many times since, certainly double figures. I’m 64 now and retired. I did Hadrians Wall last week and though I enjoyed it it’s not a patch on this one so I’ll be doing it again as soon as my wife gives me the all clear! I intend to do it every year now as long as I’m able.

Thanks Stu! I bet you've seen a few changes on the trail over the years - that's another thing I like to see when doing a trail more than once. The variety on the Cleveland Way always appeals to me. Hope you get some good weather for your next crossing, have a good one!

@@PaulandaPack certainly a great many changes but all the good bits remain, I always enjoy the convergence with the coast to coast as you usually meet a few interesting folk. I hope I get better weather than I had on Hadrians Wall, all the camp grounds were water logged and wild camping is not encouraged. I had to use a few camping barns instead. Have a great year.

Wonderful vid Paul totally loved this but I'm totally ashamed to admit i attempted it but bumped into some old school mates at Whitby and called for a pint and well that's how it all went pair shaped, massive fail, but i shall attempt again next summer... on the positive i got a free lift back to Leeds😊

Hey, thank you! There's no shame in that at all! I've had more than one hike go wrong, including this one. That's one of the things I love about longer distance trails - you can plan as much as you like, but you never really know how things are going to turn out! Hope you have a great trip next time round 😉

Hi Paul, congrats on the great video. A wonderful preview for me as I will be walking the CW next month. Would you mind sharing how much water you need to carry (when wild camping)?
@PaulandaPack
@PaulandaPack Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I hope you have a great time on trail. I carried 2.1 litres this time, that was 1.5L in the side pocket of my backpack, and a 600ml bottle up front. If you're taking a filter, you shouldn't have many problems finding sources.
