I've been researching them some, get some Topo FKT insoles, they don't hold water/sweat and are better than the originals... people say it is the original insoles that are holding a lot of the moisture. Thanks for the personal review. I tried some on in an actual store and I was shocked at the comfort.

Thank you mate. Unfortunately, at the moment, Topo don't sell the FKT insoles on their UK website. However, I did buy some from the US site and have been using them for about 5 months now. They definitely make a difference, and they seem to wear better than the standard insoles too. 👍

Absolutely disagree. Them shoes are absolutely the best. I just got back from a 30 mile hike with my family. Ran into some pretty nasty heavy rain at the end of the day everybody’s feet was soaked amongst everything else. Surprisingly, I took my shoes off and my socks were dryand very comfortable. I’m very satisfied myself with the pair. I have exact same shoes he has.

That's some dedication filming and editing that lot again :) If you're going to continue using the door-pulling-out-hook-thing I'd hook it onto the loops you added, it's a bit of a faff hooking to the grosgrain loop at the best of times. I don't know if you noticed that the hook has an adjuster? The mirrored image threw me for a bit 🤣

Haha yeah, it was, but the last video wasn't a fair depiction of the tent, so I think it was the best thing to do. Hope you didn't mind me mentioning you in there! Yeah, the clip things on the doors, I'm not a big fan of them. I prefer just to stake my doors through loops.
@AmblingMan
@AmblingMan 14 күн бұрын
@@PaulandaPack It was worth the effort, the pitch was so much better, the longer poles certainly helped. It was a shock being mentioned, but I'm recovering 🤣I'm with you on the door clips, I added Lineloc 3s to all of those loops with a length of guyline so I can pull that edge down, or out, depending on the weather. I'm taking my dipole DW to NZ in 4 weeks, it's my first long trip without my Notch Li for a long time, hopefully I don't regret it. Bit of a tip, if you ever replace guys on a LL3 leave a tail after the thumb knot and add a second thumb knot (2" gap?) so that you have something to grab when the guy is fully extended.

I just bought one of these and have had it on its first multi-day hike. Overall, I'm happy. I'd prefer the hipbelt pockets a shade larger (probably because I'm used to bigger ones on my previous pack), and I agree with your observations about the shoulder strap pockets (and the ejecting bottle!) - I'll see if I can do a fix myself. The side zipper pocket seems pointless, but maybe I'll find a use for it later. The side pockets, however, are brilliant, and their size/construction was what made me buy the Kakwa in preference to an Atom+.
@PaulandaPack
@PaulandaPack 17 күн бұрын
Nice one, hope you continue to enjoy using the pack. I ended up adding some pockets over the top of the shoulder strap ones, that solved that issue for me. Found the same as you with the hip belt pockets too, too small for what I wanted to use them for. I've since moved to a pack with no hip belt pockets and use it with a HMG Versa Fanny Pack. Works really well for me.

Well done Paul and Mark. What a beautiful journey! Paul, do you use an actual filter or a digital one to get the high saturation? I used to use a polariser for colour, and a red/orange one for black&white with my film setup. (Film? What's that?) Sorry this comment is months late. I waited until I had time to binge it all at once. It was worth the wait!
@PaulandaPack
@PaulandaPack 22 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks Anne. This was a great trip, if a little chilly at times! I sometimes use a polariser on my drone. The action camera I use (most of the shots where I'm not talking to the camera) has no filters on it. The camera I use for talking to, I usually have ND filters on that. I use an LUT in processing on all the footage, I'd guess that's where the saturation is mostly coming from. I've actually got defective colour vision, like a mild colour-blindness, so I'm sure things look a bit funny sometimes to most people! I'm still learning each time I go out to be honest!

Definitely a good decision not to continue through the snowfields. One slip and it's over. I've also encountered harder snow a few times in the Alps and always turned around and went back. Hey Paul, greetings from Idaho! I just finished watching your Pyrenees trek and have to say it was absolutely fabulous! Your use of the drone was really impressive in making some high-quality content. I was curious about how the SWD pack held up on this trip and what your overall impression of the pack is? Also, any more hikes on tap for you in 2024?
@PaulandaPack
@PaulandaPack Ай бұрын
Awesome, thank you! The drone had a close call with a Vulture on it's first flight on that trip! I was more careful using it after that, but it was such awesome hike, thank you for watching! I absolutely love my SWD pack. The only issue I've had was my own fault for not using a pack liner. As the bag isn't seam sealed, everything inside got wet during a day long rain storm. I've now sealed it myself, and gone back to using a pack liner too, so problem solved. I find it extremely comfortable, and it carries really well. There's a bit of de-lamination of the Ultra material happening now, especially on the roll-top area, but there's no holes or tears anywhere, and I've not been all that careful with it either! It must have over 1,000 miles on it now. In a week or so I'll be heading out for a few weeks across the Yorkshire Dales on the Dales High Way, then moving on into the Lake District for a loop around that if all goes according to plan. I've almost used all my holidays up for this year, so am a little restricted to what I can do now!

Isn't there a grommet to insert the tip of your trekking pole underneath the edges of the carbon arch pole? So the trekking pole is upside down? I thought this was the case for the 'standard' (non-ultra) Rainbow. It would seem stupid if they removed this feature for the ultra version.

Hey! This is really a good report from practice - that's how it should be! The noise and feel of the material somehow reminds me of my GG The One (first generation) made of Spinnaker from many years ago. Silnylon is much more pleasant, but since my Rainbow was pretty worn out after 13 years and the Rainbow Li is finally available again, I ordered it. I hope that the Cuben Fiber isn't as loud as the Ultra TNT or Spinnaker. The Cuben floor is no longer available in the new Rainbow Li, but it is now made of 15D nylon. I have my concerns about the durability because I once had a Big Sky Mirage with a floor made of 15D nylon, which didn't last long and let water through pretty quickly. I didn't use a groundsheet, though, but the 30 D floor of my "normal" Rainbow held up for many years without getting holes. For some time now I've been using a groundsheet made of Tyvek, which makes the floor last longer and it doesn't weigh too much. But even so, and even though the Rainbow Li is no longer available with a Cuben Fiber floor - what bothered you about it and how is the 20D floor of your Double Rainbow DW ULTRA doing so far? Many thanks and greetings from Germany, Matthias
@PaulandaPack
@PaulandaPack Ай бұрын
Hi Matthias, thanks for watching! I found the DCF floor of the Rainbow Li to be quite slippery. I also managed to puncture it on my first night out. My own fault for not checking the ground fully, I didn't expect a small rounded root would puncture the DCF, but it did. I find the Ultra TNT to be louder than DCF, in rain and wind. The floor of my DW Ultra Rainbow is doing great. I had it in a 12 hour rainstorm in France where water was pooling around the tent and it had no problem.
