SOLO IN LISBON, PORTUGAL | the red bridge, LX factory, wine tasting, & a day trip to Sintra 🏰

During the second half of my Lisbon trip, I finally saw the "sister" of the Golden Gate Bridge, ate more egg tarts, spent an afternoon in a bookstore cafe, took myself out on a wine bar date, and toured the town of Sintra. I booked my Sintra trip on Airbnb Experiences and part of the tour also included a lunch and wine tasting right on the beach.
This solo trip to Lisbon was soooo much fun. I can't explain exactly why, but I think Lisbon is my favorite European city so far. There is something not as serious about it; it is undoubtedly full of history, but also packed with so much color, charm, and tranquility. Very lively, but still left with so much space for you to enjoy it at your own pace.
Can't wait to come back to Portugal!

Wow that's such a good idea - I may have to try that on my next solo trip! Looking back at some of the solo trips I've taken, I regret some of the restaurants that I did not check out because of solo dining anxiety.

Hi. We have 2 types of pasteis in Lisbon. The Pastel de Belém (the one you had) and Pastel de Nata. The last one's pastry is made out of the traditional puff pastry whereas Pastel de Belém one resembles filo pastry hence its thinner texture. Next time I recommend you to go to Manteigaria instead 😊

Was Sintra day trip worth it? We only have 4 days in Lisbon but will work 5-10pm

I would say that given your schedule, you can do with or without Sintra. If you want to spend a more leisurely time in Lisbon, then skip it! If you are okay with doing Sintra one day then the 3 other days in Lisbon are going to be a bit packed but do-able

As I ate on my own, more in public, I felt more comfortable. I focus on what I’m enjoying in the experience. Most of the time, the staff, and people around me talk to me as well. It’ll get easier. 😊 I mostly travel alone. One thing I do, is to become a regular in a place or 2 that I enjoy. It’s a nice feeling to return, and have people smile and recognize you.

I cringe when you say “egg tart,” instead of calling them by their name… Sorry. I love the rest. I just returned . Travelled solo as a borderline 63 y.o. woman. Felt no safety concerns in Portugal.
