From Melbourne. God bless you man. I was a kid back in about 1962 when my parents took me to an MAF convention in Sydney, where we met pilots and saw the planes. Later as an adult, I started to learn to fly in a Cessna. I then offered my youngest (teenage) son a flight with an instructor, to see if he liked it. When he landed, he had such a smile. Now at just 30, he just made Captain on American Airlines, he lives in the USA now. Great work on the videos too, by the way. So professionally put together.

A special thank you Ryan for this awesome account. I've just re-read my father's account of flying a 2-man Vultee Vengeance from Cooktown to Moresby in 1943. During a heavy storm the single engine emitted a loud explosion and shot flames down both sides of the fuselage. He tapped out a mayday but had no response. Thankfully the engine recovered (or I guess I wouldn't be writing this). I'm only sad that he's no longer around to enjoy your vlogs as I do. Bless you mate!

Years ago, on Christmas Island (Kiribati) I met a retired commercial pilot who had moved into delivering aircraft. He was transporting a twin-engine from California to Australia. His current leg had him flying from Honolulu to Christmas to refuel, then onward. Looonng over water in a small plane. I asked him how he did it. "Easy," he replied. "I leave Hawaii, set the autopilot, and go to sleep." Now that's a confident pilot.

If I don't used checklists, I forget a lot of stuff.
@rnzoli
@rnzoli 3 жыл бұрын
This is little controversal topic. Checklists are important, but I have seen flight schools, where they want the students on simple primary trainers (e.g., 152's) to learn the checklists by memory (flow checks), and don't allow the use of written checklists. The reason is that in a busy VFR airspace, traffic everywhere, no autopilot, summer turbulence etc you simply won't have time to read up on a checklist. Written checklists are for more complex airplanes, like the Kodiac.
@arthurvilain7270
@arthurvilain7270 3 жыл бұрын
@@rnzoli As a student pilot, my own philosophy on this is learn them by heart as well as I can in case of an emergency, but still use the written checklists whenever possible because it won't ever forget an item - unlike me.
@rnzoli
@rnzoli 3 жыл бұрын
@@arthurvilain7270 everyone forgets. Some people even skip items on a paper checklist. We are humans. What is really important to do your to-do list first from memory, and only use the checklist afterwards. I can see some people mixing up the concept and use the written checklist item to remember what to do. This is wrong. The checklist is to check that all critical steps are done, not a guidance on what to do. Checklist effectiveness is reduced when used as to-do lists (no double security). .

i prefer siri or jarvis do it for me.....like mechwarriors......"reactor online,sensors online,weapons online.all systems nominal" i know planes are a pretty fundamental technology invented over 100 years ago,airflow under wings create lift.......but we are stepping into the 21s century where drones can carry humans now and fly at crazy vectors.....so should the tech..... also the more complicated something is the more likely people are going to die,iv watched 11 seasons of air crash investigation......even though the solution is obvious and right in front of them,people forget things easily when the plane is banking at a 30 degree angle and falling at the rate of 1000 ft per 3 seconds.....or they get confused when some freak weather phenom occurs and they dont realise they arent where they are...... in fact i want an ipad with just a few buttons on it......and an a,i, thats smart enough to know whats going on......"sir ur airspeed is dangerously low!!!!!!stop pushing on the throttle and pulling on the stick at the same time in a storm!!!!!there is not enough power to climb u retard!!!!!" "warning!!!!!!!ground proximity warning!!!!!pull the fark up now before u crash into the side of the mountain!!!!!" "sir would u like me to take over the plane and level it out cause its in a uncontrollable spin?" and instead of pilots taking 4 minutes each time to go over the checklist because of enginer flameout......"siri restart goddam engine sequence now!!!!!!u hear me????sonofabytch!!!!!!!"

Mate congratulations on reaching 100,000 subscribers well done. And I can’t emphasise the importance of checklists as they have saved me more than once from potentially embarrassing moments due to rushing. Excellent content as usual. Thx mate 👍

I really enjoyed that flight! It was great to see you handling this trip compared to all the others you normally do. As a private pilot in Melbourne I really enjoy following your trips whilst we are enduring the lockdown in Victoria.
