Good one. Got back from a solo Kalamunda to Dwellingup walk last Saturday. 211km in 6 days. Weather was perfect. Wildflowers still out. Plenty of ticks too. Saw no one after Gringer. Pembie to Northcliffe section before end of year before heat sets in.

That’s a good hike!! Glad to hear you got the good weather- the wind is so nice to cool you down and help with the flies. Keen to hear how you go at the end of the year mate! Thanks for supporting 🙏🙏

I recently embarked on that same trek, and let me tell you, it was a comedy of errors! Like you, I had grand plans for an overnight stay at Hewitts Hill camp, followed by a triumphant return to Kalamunda the next morning. But oh boy, did things take a turn for the worse! As I approached the trail, I encountered a shoe cleaning station, only to find a sneaky trip wire waiting for me. One moment I was standing, and the next, I was flat on my face. Despite a few bumps and bruises, I soldiered on. I finally reached the wooden bench with the stunning views, only to discover that the waggle sign was pointing towards a downhill stream instead of the left track. Naturally, I thought, "Why not?" and made my way down, nearly giving myself a heart attack in the process. But when I got to the bottom, I was met with a complete lack of waggle signs, which meant I had to scale that rocky hill again. At that point, I was half-convinced I’d need a helicopter to airlift me out of there! I returned home battered and sore, and now I’m left wondering if I’ll ever dare to try that adventure again.

Good on you! Getting out and doing it! There’s a few sections you could come unstuck - I took a few wrong turns too haha. Thanks so much for the comment and support love hearing your adventures!

@@jackkermode My family is advising me against it, but I plan to give it another shot once they settle down a bit. They’re worried I might get lost and not come back. LOL!

A good start is to buy field guides. We bought one for birds of Australia, awesome! They are thinner size but thick from pages.

Thanks! That’s a great idea! I’ll definitely get one.

I so enjoyed watching your walk along the Bibbulmun Track - the bush, the birdsong, and the silence is amazing. I'm too old to do this sort of thing now but love seeing others out there making the most of our wonderful country. Leave the camera rolling for a few minutes so that we can soak up some of the peace and quiet you are enjoying. Loved seeing the kangaroo :) Thank you.
@jackkermodeАй бұрын
Thanks Jill! Great feedback - I originally had some longer camera rolling clips…. But will do them in future vids. Support means a lot 🙏

What a lovely section of the track 😊 Couldn't quite identify the plants shown but I think the little purple one may have been some type of scaveola, I'm not sure though. Its nice you're interested in learning them, it gets kind of addictive 🌱🌸 Nice video mate 🤘

Nice video and great weather. I have the same tent and been using it for couple of years. In the summer I leave the fly off and just look up at the sky. Love it.
@jackkermodeАй бұрын
Bargain and ripper of a tent! Mine has a small hole for the mozzies in the mesh so the fly gives me extra protection 😹 otherwise laying with the fly off is bliss! Thanks so much for the comment 🙏

Great video Jack you have inspired me to get out and hike more around my area so i took a note of the gear you recommended in an earlier video and so far i have most the stuff, picked up a hiking backpack today. I like how you get up and go even if it’s late in the arvo just shows theres no time like the present lol. The knobby rock was funny glad you put that in i needed a laugh haha 😂.

Woohoo! Good on you Neil- it’s beautiful out there. A good hiking bag makes the difference 🙏 thanks for all the support mate

Happy to see you using the dyeback spray. It sprays in a horizontal stream so make sure you spray heel to toe twice to ensure that your arch isn't the only safe part of your shoe 😊

Great advice, I’ll be sure to do that in future , thanks so much for the comments - legend!

Hey mate, I use atlas of the living Australia to find the plant and wildlife in my area (Explore your area option). I've only just started hiking and loving every minute of it. I do hope to get to WA and hike the sections of the Bibbulmun. Thanks for sharing the adventure mate.

Great video Jack, will do this myself soon. Done Mt dale to kalumunda visitor centre 2 weeks ago with a mate 40 kms over 3 days. We choose the weekend they had a trail running mega marathon thing. So there were hundreds of runners on the first day. But it was a great walk , flys were insane , i wanted to cry the second day , from waalegh to helena , absolutely brutal amount of hills. Keep the videos coming !!!

The rock up that gruelling hill on the Bibb is known as cock rock by many hikers. I hate that hill - it gets the heart pumping that's for sure.

Sup Jack.! Short but sweet honey smack diggin vid. There are sites that can give you information on Flora & Fauna all around the Perth Hills. Also any Info Center have trail maps with Botanical info etc. Catch you on the next one. Cheers from Christmas Island.

Hewitt's Hut, because of its close proximity and easy access to public areas eg Kalamunda Coles etc. is often flooded with school kids doing outdoor education. You're better off going to the next one (Ball Creek) as it's not used so much as a school outing overnighter.

Good advice- I didn’t think that one through, lucky it was a Sunday night and campground was quiet , nice to see even though it was busy - no rubbish or signs of that around
