When they were discussing the rumors to get Mew, I think Peebs was thinking of the S. S. Anne truck and Jeff was thinking of the Mew glitch. The S. S. Anne truck does exist, there's just no Mew there. Additionally, the Mew glitch has nothing to do with the truck, but, as the name implies, it is possible to get Mew from it.

According to bulbapedia, depositing 999 pokémon from Diamond/Pearl allowed you to transfer a Mew back to your game. That's gen 4 though, and they're referring to gen 1 in this conversation.

I don't know the details but I saw a speedrunner get mew from the truck. I'm pretty sure he did something to manipulate data values though (item underflow glitch I think). It IS possible to get Mew legitimately via random encounter but the chances are so low that very few people (even amongst those with thousands of hours of gameplay) ever saw it.

I'm super into gen 1 glitches and I have _never_ heard of Mew appearing for anything besides a glitch. There's actually a number of ways to glitch Mew into appearing, ChickasaurusGL, Crystal_, TheZZAZZGlitch, and MissingnoXpert are good people to check out if you wanna learn how gen 1 is basically held together with duct tape and prayers. Arbitrary code execution is possible, thus people can make the game do things like turn into a game of Pong or make Mew appear by the truck.

@thebasement (a fantastic LP channel) Has been playing this same ROM, and they showed that luigi and mario can go straight up the stairs without 70 stars. The door isn't locked. If Jeff had stayed there he could have gone inside (Just like in the original game) and actually walked to the top. The reason the stairs are endless is partially due to a camera trick, so the glitchy camera in the hack negates it and lets you go straight up the stairs and into the level without 70 stars.

I'm sure you guys have already looked it up and will probably mention it in the next episode, but the truck by the S.S. Anne won't give you Mew. There is a glitch you can do in Yellow to get Mew though. I don't recall if it works in Red and Blue too, but it definitely works in Yellow

The most famous way to get Mew in gen1 involves pausing and using Fly (or Dig or Escape Rope) at the same frame a trainer notices you, which lets you walk around the overworld while the game thinks you're in a battle. Since the Gameboy has no memory protection, various actions will overwrite the battle data in the RAM, and fighting a certain trainer causes the game to think you should encounter a Lv.7 wild Mew. (You can also catch Gengar, Nidoqueen and some other normally unavailable Pokemon this way, and of course you have a roughly 50% chance to get a Missingno; the level is based on one of the stat buff variables so you can manipulate that to get the wild pokemon to be Lv.1 through lv.15... due to a bug in the EXP formula, catching a Lv.1 pokemon and getting it a small amount of EXP will cause its level to underflow to 100). This bug is basically a rabbit hole of fun exploits.

It's indeed possible to get Mew. It involves moving x amount off spots and flying repeatedly. It's makes it so that the code for a wild pokemon equals Mew's pokedex number as Mew is programmed into the game but just isn't used.

In pokemon yellow you can also get mew by tricking the game. It has something to do with combining wild pokemon numbers by flying from one town (i cant remeber which) to lavander town. And when you're about to exit the town, different wild pokemon will appear. If you're lucky enough (and the numbers are by your side) you can get it :)

You could get a Dragonite to evolve into Yoshi if a player with Pokemon Red traded a Dratini to Pokemon Blue. The Pokemon Blue game then evolves Dratini all the way to Dragonite and then trade it back to the Red game. The Red game then goes to where Mewtwo is and uses a Firestone on the Dragonite to evolve it into Yoshi! That's what Nintendo Power told us. Also, if you held your game upside down and caught a Lickitung, then used a Rare Candy on it, it'll evolve into Luigi.

U can get mew through a glitch but its not the truck. You can also battle professor oak and get a pokemon with the bird typing and dony forget about LV 100 before brock!

What Pebs and Jif were talking about got me thinking... What other video game rumours have you all heard of or spread around when you were (or are) are kid? Anything at all. For me, it was holding A and B and muting your DS, not talking at all, would increase the chances of catching a Pokemon (Gen 4). Also, the Mew one was around my area too, even in Australia, haha. And... Hmm, I think there was one about being able to play as Zelda (no, not LINK) in Ocarina of Time.

16:16 Four years late to this party, but yeah. It's true. You actually can get Mew in Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow versions for the Game Boy. Like Jeff said, it's not really a location thing (As in being an event) in the game (I mean, it might have been at one point, IDK), but it's a glitch, and the most common way of doing it is on the nugget bridge in cerulean city. There is, like, a very particular way to do it, which can only be done with a particular order. I'll be honest, I didn't think it was true when I was going to do it, but I tried anyway, and ended up finishing the game, having swept every Gym with a Mew. It's illegitimate though, so if you try this on, like, the 3DS, DO NOT TRY TO SEND IT THROUGH THE POKEMON BANK. If you get caught, they'll ban you.

It's actually not super tough to get the 100 coins on that level...mainly because there are an abundance of blue coins. You just have to master the wall jump to get to them (after activating them of course).
